Implant case once again. I really do love putting a smile on my patients faces. .cvg definitely makes my top 🔝 10 favorite patients list
This is Cristel and she’s on her journey to becoming a pediatric dentist. 🤛🏼👩🏼‍🔬
Cristel initially came to me to replace a missing tooth 🦷. It wasn’t an easy case to say the least. Imagine a young pretty patient who is a future dentist with a paper thin maxilla 😱. Yes it needed to be perfect.
I initially grafted the ridge and while in recovery room she got so upset at me, to a point of tears. To be honest i wondered what was wrong but then found out that she wanted to have her surgery live on Instagram. Even though we trained in the same place I’m no 🤣
Well now we’re here. Bone healed well and we were able to get in an implant with of course palatal roll soft tissue graft and immediate temp crown.
Can’t wait to have the braces off and go to a permanent restoration.
Esthetic implant but also head and neck surgeon 👨🏻‍⚕️ 🤪 My residents ask me if I get bored doing dentoalveolar surgery, especially in the OR during head and neck cases, when they’re in awe. As awesome as it is to do neck dissections and parotidectomies at the same time curing cancer, putting a smile on Cristels face couldn’t make me happier.

Implant case as promised
We as surgeons can screw in some titanium into patients jaws. After all that doesn’t take much skill. However, the challenge lies in doing it in such concert where the implants are not “screws” going into bone but rather a foundation for prosthetic end result.
My friend can tell you more about prosthetically driven surgery 😂 at the end of the day it’s all patient driven. Even though our patients come to us asking for implants, what they really want is teeth.
With the advent of virtual surgery, computerized planning and 3D printing we can have necessary precision to deliver these cases in a single sitting. Yes is becoming more of a standard of care.
This patient loved her result and I loved the collaboration with for prosthetic input.

🦠 pandemic 😷 distressed the world since the outbreak started. Most tragic is of course loss of human life in outrageous proportions. Words cannot describe the sense of grief that some experience
The loss that came to my mind this morning is the care that my partner Dr.David Hoffman has been delivering to kiddos of Neiva Colombia 🇨🇴 for the last nearly 3 decades, joined by my other partner and overall badass surgeon for nearly half a decade Dr. Lydia Lam. .
The pictures above are the first baby that I operated on during my very first trip to Neiva. At this time of the year our office is usually hard at work putting the supplies together, fundraising and organizing the logistics of the mission of over 100 health professionals from , , , , to students and high school volunteers. .
There are usually thousands of patients showing up for screenings from babies to young adults getting primary cleft care as well as secondary procedures including orthognathic surgery.
The virus stripped all those in need of the care they expected this year. Best we can do is pray and hope for the best and plan for a even stronger mission next year 💪🏼
