Proud to join Brookwood School District in Glenwood, IL for an impactful parent-focused event centered around Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and the critical role mental health plays in our schools.

The district's social workers shared a valuable presentation alongside community resource partners who highlighted emotional intelligence. Riveredge Hospital was honored to be present as a resource - connecting with social workers and families to share information about our inpatient and PHP programs and additional support options for students who may need a higher level of care.

Friday is expected to be the coldest day for the Chicagoland area in years.

We will be under an Extreme Cold Warning with possible wind chills as cold as -40° in some spots tomorrow morning. Just like your mental health - your safety matters, so bundle up, plan ahead, and stay warm.
Here are some immediate safety measures you can take during the warning:

• Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside during the coldest parts of the day.
• Dress in Layers: Wear mittens, hats, and scarves to protect against frostbite and hypothermia.
• Protect Your Home: Keep your home heated (68-70°F if possible) and seal cracks around doors and windows with towels or rags.
• Prevent Frozen Pipes: Let faucets drip slightly and keep kitchen/bathroom cabinet doors open to allow heat to circulate.
• Monitor Vulnerable Individuals: Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and children.
• Pet Safety: Bring all pets and livestock indoors or into a warm, sheltered area.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, observed on the third Monday of January each year, marks the birthday of the civil rights leader and activist. In 1994, Congress designated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a national day of service . MLK Day is not just a moment to reflect on history—it’s a call to action. Dr. King fought tirelessly for justice, equality, and the rights of the marginalized. His message is as urgent today as it was decades ago.

The theme this year is “Mission Possible 2: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way.”

Let us reflect, learn, and continue to stand for kindness and humanity.

This picture radiates love.

LOVE is, what Wanda our “Riveredge Mom” says, the secret to achieving a long beautiful life. As we celebrated her 80th birthday (yes that is correct, the big 80!) she shared with us that it is the love she has for her colleagues, our patients, and the work we do that keeps her young and happy. Wanda has worked as part of our Health Information Management department for over 20 years, and her passion, professionalism, and wisdom have shaped our hospital in countless ways and inspired everyone who has had the pleasure of working with her.

Ms. Wanda, your life has been a beautiful example of kindness, generosity, and love, --living the Golden Rule every day, loving others as you would be loved. Thank you for the care, wisdom, and compassion you’ve shared so freely with everyone around you. You are deeply cherished, today and always.

We are incredibly grateful for your years of service and can’t wait to see what amazing things you’ll accomplish next.

💙 National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 💙

Today, we pause to honor and thank the brave men and women in law enforcement across the nation who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect and serve our communities.

A special shoutout to our partners in surrounding communities and, most importantly, to the dedicated officers of Forest Park Police Department.

Your hard work and commitment keep our staff, families, and patients safe, and we are grateful! Pictured here is the Forest Park Chief of Police, Ken Gross, accepting an appreciation basket from our leadership team.

In the spirit of the season, a representative from Riveredge Hospital's Business Development team was invited to attend the Jesse White Foundation's Holiday Hour - an evening filled with holiday cheer, meaningful connections, and a special performance by the iconic Jesse White Tumbling Team.

Being included in this event reflects Riveredge Hospital's ongoing commitment to community partnership and support for organizations that uplift at-risk youth through scholarships, coat and food drives, and essential programming across Chicago.

If you've been feeling a little heavier as the seasons change, you're not alone. Seasonal Affect disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that can return around the same time each year - and it's okay to acknowledge when things feel off.

A few best practices that may help:
- Get outside or increase light exposure when possible
- Keep a simple routine for sleep, movement, and meals
- Stay connected with friends, family, and coworkers
- Do one small thing each day that brings comfort or joy
- Reach out for professional support if symptoms start to feel overwhelmed

It's okay to not feel okay - and Riveredge Hospital is always availble for support. Please contact us at 708-209-4181
