The Village of Forest, Safety Services are ramping up operations and preparation for the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. With expectation of large increase in visitors the Forest Area and the possibility of "gridlock of our highways and roads the Jackson-Forest EMS, Forest Fire and Forest Police will have alternate means of transportation available for responding to calls for assistance and emergencies.
The EMS will have two ambulance stretcher carts for response into crowded or congested areas. Likewise, the fire dept. will have several utility vehicles equipped for firefighting, the Police Department will have the ability to respond by golf cart or ATV.
All departments will increase staffing with 24 coverage. Additionally, EMS has established a dedicated medical helicopter landing zone, first aid / field hospital which will be opened as needed, if staff is available. Should the transportation hub become gridlocked, patients may be airlifted to an appropriate area hospital or held at the field hospital until traffic lightens and they can safely be transported to medical care.
The Jackson Forest EMS is seeking volunteer nurses and health care providers in the Forest area that would be available to be called into the field hospital, should the need arise, to assist with patient monitoring and care.
If you are a qualified healthcare provider and willing to help please contact Chief Dean Hankins, by email at jacksonforestems@hotmail.com. Chief Hankins can also be reached at the Forest Fire and EMS Station at, 419-273-2520
