Thanks to my Patrons, who contribute $8.00 per month for an exclusive one-year sneak-peek behind the scenes, i am able to regularly write new web pages on the history of African-American folk magic. This week in "Blues Lyrics and Hoodoo" my Patrons are getting an illustrated and annotated transcription from my collection of 20th century blues lyrics about African-American rootwork. Today our conjure documentation comes from 1932, with the husband and wife team of Coot Grant and Kid Sox Wesley Wilson, singing about the power of a mojo hand, and how the inadvertent touch of a lover can cut off its luck. I have written short biographies of the couple, for those who enjoy musical history alongside their education in hoodoo, and thanks to the help of my husband nagasiva, the bio is accompanied by a portrait photo, two label shots, and an MP3 audio file so you can sing along.
