This flu season is brutal, and we want to make sure those who are experiencing illness are mindful of their pelvic floor and its role during that time 🤧
When you’re sick, your pelvic floor works overtime, especially with coughing, sneezing, and vomiting.

Here are several ways to support your pelvic floor as it works overtime...

✨ Support when you cough or sneeze
Cross your legs or gently brace your core to reduce pressure on the pelvic floor - and do not blow your nose while on the toilet, as this puts extra pressure on your pelvic floor!

🚽 Don't "just in case" p*e
Unnecessary bathroom trips can strain your bladder.

💧 Stay hydrated
Dehydration can irritate the bladder and worsen pelvic tension.

😷 Manage your cough with OTC meds or speak with your doctor if the cough becomes frequent or unbearable.

🛌 Rest & avoid straining
Your body and pelvic floor need rest to heal properly.

⚠️ If you notice leaking, heaviness, or pelvic pain, a pelvic floor physical therapist can help, especially after a prolonged illness.

Tearing 🫣
It’s one of the biggest concerns for pregnant women—especially first-time moms. And understandably so!

The good news? There are ways to prepare your body during pregnancy that can help prevent tearing or reduce its severity.

Seeing a Pelvic Floor Therapist should be stop number one on your journey toward a more supported, confident, and tear-minimizing birth. 💛

Your body deserves preparation, not fear. 🤰

Moms—what’s one thing you wish you had done during pregnancy?

As pelvic floor therapists, we hear “I wish I had…” all the time from postpartum moms. From preparing the pelvic floor and core, to learning how to push, breathe, and recover properly—there’s so much we don’t get taught until after the fact.

We’re here to help you do things differently during subsequent pregnancies. 💛
