October is Safe Sleep and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month
• Each year in the U.S., about 3,500 infants die from sleep-related causes, including SIDS. In Montana, 23% of annual infant deaths are linked to the sleep environment.
• To reduce risk, always place your baby flat on their back, on a firm, approved sleep surface, with no other people, pets, or items in the sleep space.
• For more safe sleep guidance, see the AAP recommendations and visit the Montana FICMMR Prevention tab for local resources.

WIC Approved Food of the Month: Corn

It’s corn! 🌽 A big lump with k***s, it has the juice! 🍿I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing! 🎶

Not only is corn tasty, it also helps support your gut and digestive health since corn contains both soluble and insoluble fiber! 🙌

Soluble fiber breaks down and forms a gel in your intestines and can help regulate blood sugar levels and cholesterol. Insoluble fiber does not break down which means the corn kernel outer shells pass through your digestive system and can act as a prebiotic which can support a healthy gut microbiome!

What are your favorite ways to eat corn in the fall?

When someone spots a bee swarm or established colony, you can report it to beeswarmed.org. The tool immediately alerts local beekeepers within the reporter's area, with most reports being answered in under 15 minutes. Many bee colony relocations are provided at no cost as a community service, though complex established colony extractions may involve fees that beekeepers discuss directly with property owners.

Swarmed connects communities with beekeepers across the United States and works with municipal services, emergency dispatch centers, community organizations, and over 50 beekeeping associations.
