World Hand Hygiene Day is May 5, 2026. A large proportion of avoidable infections acquired during health care delivery could be prevented with hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC) action at the right times. This provides a high return on investment for health systems and countries.

Hand hygiene is a foundational public health intervention that reduces transmission and supports infection prevention efforts across Montana.

The Chouteau County Health Department Youth Substance Prevention Program is proud to partner with the Chouteau County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Justin Smith, and Deputy Darby Reardon to deliver the evidence-based Too Good For Drugs prevention program to local students.

This school year, Too Good For Drugs was provided countywide to all 3rd grade students, as well as to 6th and 7th grade students in Fort Benton. The program teaches age-appropriate lessons on positive decision-making, goal setting, and substance use prevention education—helping equip youth with the tools they need to make healthy choices.

We are grateful for the dedication and flexibility of our local law enforcement partners, especially Deputy Darby Reardon, whose commitment helps make these important prevention efforts possible.

Based on student feedback and questions, we are exploring opportunities to continue expanding Too Good for Drugs prevention education for high school students in the future.

Together, we are building stronger, healthier futures for Chouteau County youth!

Our Chouteau County Neighbor in Need account is feeling the belt tightening effect of our current economy. Any donation that you could find it in your heart to make would be greatly appreciated. Last year we helped people with utility bills, rent, medical bills, medications, gas, car repair, and emergency lodging. We also supplied 45 hygiene kits to Highwood 4 and 5th graders and 33 to the local victim advocacy office. We support menstrual dispensing machines at all four local schools and additions to thanksgiving and holiday baskets to community members in need. Checks can be made to Neighbor in Need and sent to P O Box 459. Your support is very much appreciated we are stronger together. Thank you.
