Phase II enlisted students from the Medical Readiness Battalion, Student Detachment, WBAMC, conducted water training this week, building confidence in the water and getting a full body workout. Familiarity with water environments reduces fear and panic in stressful situations. Confidence in the water translates to better decision-making and improved survival rates. Water training is an excellent form of full-body exercise that improves cardiovascular fitness, strength, and endurance. Great job to all Soldiers!

🎉 Huge congratulations to Spc. Owusu Ampratwum on graduating from the Medical Laboratory Technician Phase II course today! 🎉

Since enlisting in February 2024, this New Jersey native has dedicated himself to mastering the critical skills needed to support Army Medicine. Spc. Ampratwum is proudly assigned to the 311th Field Hospital and has been hard at work during this advanced training.

His coursework included intensive study of culture morphology references, gaining expertise in identifying bacterial species. He's spent hours working with blood agar plates inside the biological safety cabinet, and skillfully using a microscope to perform Gram stain analysis – all to study bacterial characteristics in detail.

Spc. Ampratwum's skills are essential for diagnosing illnesses, tracking disease outbreaks, and ultimately contributing to Army Medicine and Army Readiness. His hard work directly impacts the health and well-being of our Soldiers.

We're incredibly proud of your dedication and accomplishments, Spc. Ampratwum! We know you'll make a fantastic addition to the medical team at the 311th Field Hospital.

The Beaumont Fellowship and Mentorship Program held their annual Health Extravaganza on Aug. 28, in the hospital's clinical assembly room. The theme this year was focused on mental health and how to deal with life’s stressors. The guest speaker was Maj. Dawn Dubay and her and her team did a wonderful job of providing interactive activities that allowed the audience to practice some of those coping skills in real time.

At the end of the event, there was a raffle drawing for some “self-care” themed baskets, a token of appreciation from BFMP leadership to participants, for showing up and partaking in the activities. The winners were 1st Sgt. Adam Henderson (A Co) and Maj. Rebecca Johnson.

Iron Soldiers and Families,
William Beaumont Army Medical Center invites you to "Coffee with the Commander" at 10:30 AM on August 21st in the Clinical Assembly Room, located on the first floor of the WBAMC Administration Building. All beneficiaries are welcome and encouraged to attend. "Coffee with the Commander," aka the Patient and Family Partnership Council, is an opportunity for the patients who use the hospital facilities to provide direct feedback on how to improve the patient experience.

Council discussions have improved the WBAMC services in many areas such as dining facility changes, bone marrow donation opportunities, flu vaccine campaigns, and even a parking lot shuttle service that improved accessibility across the medical center campus.

Come and be a part of the discussion!
