Mendocino Coast Clinics

Mendocino Coast Clinics Mendocino Coast Clinics is a non-profit, community-based health center. In 2009, the geriatric practice affiliated with the organization.

Overview and History
Mendocino Coast Clinics is a true example of a grass roots organization, with historical roots as a free clinic to being a community based health clinic operated by a patient driven not for profit Board of Directors for nearly 30 years. Medical care was the driving force as the clinic transitioned from the Mendocino County Health Department to the nonprofit Mendocino Coast Clinics. Initially focusing on primary and preventative care, services have grown to include wellness exams, diabetes education, podiatry and dermatology. Behavioral Health Care was added in 1995 and has grown from providing counseling to also to including Behavioral Medicine with psychiatric consultations, psychopharmacology, suboxone treatment for opiate addiction and pain management. In 2010 case management services were added for these patients as well as for homeless people. In 1997, the health problems related to the lack of accessible dental care motivated MCC to add dental care as another major component of the organization for adults and children. In 2005, MCC assumed the obstetrical and gynecology providers which also included perinatal services, childbirth classes and breastfeeding support. In 2010, MCC opened the Teen Clinic, now Blue Door@MCC, offering an array of health care, services and education to local youth. In 2011, the local pediatric practice affiliated with MCC bringing specialized care and service to the community’s infants, children and young adults. In 2013, the Liz Irwin Wing, funded by the Affordable Care Act, was opened. The Mendocino Coast Clinics’ service area runs along 50 miles of rural and geographically isolated portions of the northern California coast in Mendocino County. MCC mission is to build a healthy community by providing patient-centered health care to all coastal residents.

Make your health a priority this year! Cancer screenings can save lives with early detection.

Did you know:

- Women aged 45-55 should get an annual mammogram, switching to every 2 years at age 55 and up.

- The recommended age to start screening for colorectal cancer is now 45. That doesn't mean you have to have a colonoscopy. Easy, non-invasive home test options are now available. Ask your provider what's best for you.

- Pap tests should start at the age of 25 to screen for cervical cancer. We now have self-collected tests that are done in clinic, as an alternative to traditional Pap tests. Ask your provider about your options.

Call us at (707) 964-1251 to make your appointment and kick off a happy, healthy New Year!

Ahora existen pruebas caseras sencillas y no invasivas.

For the second half of January, our wellness challenge is to avoid added sugar or sugar substitutes for 7 days. You can still have natural sugar from food like fresh fruit and unsweetened dairy products.

Don't forget that sugar can hide in plain sight, so read food labels carefully. Cane juice, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, brown rice syrup, honey, agave, and fruit juice concentrate are all sugars.

Hidden sugars often show up in yogurt, cereal, granola, sauces, dressings, bread, and snack bars.

Choose any 7 days to complete the challenge and notice how your energy and cravings change.

MCC's Registered Dietitian Susie is starting off 2026 with an easy, make-ahead Recipe of the Month for chia pudding. Topped off with fresh fruit, or granola, or chopped nuts, it’s delicious, but it's also packed with fiber, protein, and healthy fats.

It’s super easy to make, and it keeps in the fridge for about 5 days. Make a batch of chia seed pudding on the weekend, and portion it into individual jars or containers. You’ll have a quick, healthy breakfast ready for every day of the week!

Ingredients
Makes 1 serving

½ cup milk of choice
2 tablespoons chia seeds
½ teaspoon maple syrup or other sweetener

Optional toppings
Fruit
Chopped nuts or granola
Coconut flakes
Maple syrup

Instructions
In a lidded jar, combine the milk, chia seeds, and sweetener. Cover and shake to combine. Chill for a few hours, then give it a good stir to loosen any clumps. Continue chilling for 8 hours or overnight for the pudding to set.

Serve with toppings like fruit, nuts, coconut flakes, and maple syrup as desired.
