The MCHF recently purchased AED (Automated External Defibrillator) devices for all patrol vehicles in the Fort Bragg Police Department. Rapid AED use delivers a life-saving electrical shock to the heart when it stops or goes into a chaotic rhythm, restoring a normal heartbeat. With survival rates dropping by 7-10% for each minute of delay, prompt defibrillation, ideally within 3-5 minutes, is the only way to convert these life-threatening rhythms, increasing the chances of survival significantly. Fort Bragg police are often the first responders, and now they will have these life-saving tools in their vehicles.

The Mendocino Coast Healthcare Foundation supports organizations that care for the health and wellness of our community.

Our MCHF President Terry Ramos presents a check to Amanda Friscia, Executive Director of the Fort Bragg Food Bank, whose organization assisted at our Winesong fundraiser last month. The Winesong Live Auction contained a Lot dedicated to the Food Bank, and that auction Lot raised $5,000 for the Food Bank in less than five minutes! Our MCHF Vice-President Charlene McAllister presents a check for $81,400 to Lucresha Renteria, Executive Director of Mendocino Coast Clinics (MCC). MCHF's lovely fundraiser event, Winesong, raised these funds on behalf of MCC last month--these funds support state-of-the-art telemedicine services for coastal residents. The Foundation was pleased to be able to support MCC in 2024 through the generosity of our auction participants (https://mendocinocoastclinics.org/). Additional funds were also raised for the Fort Bragg Food Bank at our annual event, as well as ongoing MCHF programs providing nursing scholarship, direct patient cancer care financial support, and other community health and wellness services provided by our Foundation.

MCHF was the recipient of native trees including elderberries and red alder planted by Conservation Works this past Saturday on our Main Street campus. Thanks to the California Climate Action Corps Fellows who are hosted by Conservation Works and who organized the planting day as part of Branch Out Fort Bragg! Thanks too for community volunteers who helped. ,

We often hear the word “wellness.” But what exactly does it mean? Wellness is a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fueling the body, engaging the mind, and nurturing the spirit. Certainly wellness includes always striving for health, but it’s more about living life fully for each individual based on his, her, or their choices given each person’s potentials and circumstances. Wellness also means we must steward our body and mind with sufficient self-care. We will all have our own priorities, approaches, and aspirations, including our own views of what it means to live life fully.
