Did you know that regulation of your blood sugar can change as you age? 🩸
Insulin sensitivity drops and insulin production slows, leaving sugar in your bloodstream longer.
This can increase your risk for diabetes and related health issues.
➡️ Swipe to see why this matters and how small lifestyle habits can make a big difference!

Did you know your arteries naturally become stiffer as you age and produce less nitric oxide, a molecule that helps them dilate during activity? This change can increase risk for heart disease, stroke, and even cognitive decline over time. Understanding how your body changes with age helps you make choices that protect your healthspan.
Want to learn simple research backed ways to support your artery health? Tune in this Tuesday for Tips Tuesday where we share practical habits you can start right away.

Through interdisciplinary research, hands-on education, and community engagement, we turn aging science into real-world impact! 🧬🌱
In simpler terms, we study how people age — and how they can stay healthy, active, and independent as they get older. By bringing together researchers, students, and community partners, we explore the biological, mental, and social sides of aging.
Our work goes beyond the lab. We turn research into education, programs, and real-world solutions that support individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan.

Did you know, Colorado State University is the first university in Colorado to be designated an Age-Friendly University (AFU)? 🐏✨
What does “age-friendly” actually mean?
It means CSU is committed to creating a campus where people of every age can learn, participate, grow, and belong.
CSU’s AFU designation reflects something we deeply believe:
A campus that embraces aging is a campus that supports connection, inclusion, and lifelong opportunity.
We’re proud to be part of a university leading the way in age-friendly innovation.

Happy Tip Tuesday, our weekly series sharing small, research-backed habits that support healthy living at every age!
Since it’s finals week for many at CSU, today’s tip is all about sleep — one of the most important factors for both academic performance and healthy aging.
Here are 3 inclusive, research-backed strategies you can adapt to your lifestyle:
😴 Set a gentle sleep routine — even a loose schedule improves memory and focus.
📱 Reduce blue light before bed — if screens are unavoidable, lower brightness or switch to “night mode.”
🌙 Shape your ideal sleep space — cool room, eye mask, soft lighting, white noise, whatever makes rest accessible to you.
Sleep supports:
🧠 Cognitive function
🔥 Metabolic health
❤️ Heart and stress regulation
🦵 Mobility and balance
No matter what finals week looks like for you — studying, working, caregiving, commuting — you deserve rest. Your health matters today and years from now!

People in general are living longer and that is great news, but it also creates a need for addressing critical challenges related to age-related diseases and disabilities. Even more important, it challenges us to consider ways to promote successful, healthy aging so people can live the healthiest and most productive lives.
The Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging, launched with a generous $5 million gift from Bob and Kitty Wilson, owners of Columbine Health Systems, addresses these challenges by serving as a catalyst for interdisciplinary research, education, and community engagement around cutting-edge issues involved in healthy and successful aging.
The Center unites current expertise and active research programs at CSU in the biological and psychological/sociological aspects of healthy aging, basic and translational science, and integration of animal and human models of aging. True to CSU’s land-grant heritage, a significant focus of activity involves community engagement and the translation of scientific discoveries to programs and policies that support successful aging.
The Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging houses an integrated suite of offices and lab spaces for faculty who are engaging in cutting-edge research on biological, cognitive, psychological, social, and behavioral factors that lead to healthy and successful aging. The Center leverages and brings together extensive existing research on aging at the university, and offers new opportunities for research and community programs.
CSU has a long history of aging-related research, and this beautiful new center provides a collaborative, state-of-the-art space to bring successful researchers together from across disciplines to work toward innovative solutions that support healthy and successful aging. The Center provides an environment in which cross-disciplinary research can take place and innovative ideas can more easily flourish.
In addition to research activities, part of the mission of the Center is to offer evidence-based outreach services. Please visit the Aging Clinic of the Rockies website to learn more about neuropsychological testing and counseling services for older adults and their families.
The Center reports to the Vice President for Research and a board represented by the deans of the Colleges of Health and Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
