Try a little Hokey Pokey or Jazz it up with a few oldies!
Get them moving to a beat, or a call to action. Sometimes all it takes is a little music to get them moving.
What was your loved one’s favorite genres? Can you do a search and bring along to your next visit a little music to get them moving. I still move when I hear an old son that I danced to when I went to school dances. Who knows what kind of memories or inner joy this might bring up. It is all about the joy these days and reminding them if not outwardly, inwardly of the joy that they moved too. Oh, the GOOD OLD DAYS!
I did a simple search on Songs for seniors to encourage movement. It brought up a plethora of ideas.

March 20th is soon to be here. A time of renewal, reflection, new growth and grounding.
Let’s get our loved ones prepared for the upcoming sights, smells, and energy of life. Do they have proper shoes for those walks, is their equipment up to date and adjusted for the possible changes that occurred over the winters nap? Do they need a pedicure to keep their feet moving?
Proper clothing for that springtime weather? Do they have seeds to plant and décor to match the upcoming time of year? Let’s get them excited and make them smile for those signs of new life that bring them joy and memories of the past.

Did you know how important hydrations is for our loved ones. Is there something in place that helps them stay hydrated and encourages them to drink?
From what I have read it is very crucial for seniors to stay hydrated. It supports vital bodily functions, including digestion, temperature regulation, and cognitive health. Dehydration can lead to serious health issues, such as confusion and increased risk of infections. We all know and hate them UTI’s. I am not a doctor but this would be a good question to ask yourself. Does your loved one stay hydrate?
How much water should they be consuming a day?
Does your loved one have a refillable water bottle and some way to keep track of how much they are taking in? Maybe provide them with a case of water each month that they can grab when they see it.
Food for thought and something to think about. Making their life more saturated with your love.

If you are deciding between a private room and semi-private room for you loved one, this can be a hard choice. I know that we would all like a private space for our loved ones but do not beat yourself up if is just not financially doable. They will have so many things that come up through this process and sometime having a roommate, well can be a plus. Also, having a little breathing room financially can help with incidentals that might arise. I just wanted to say we all do what we can, visiting and loving on them is the most important.
I also want to put it out there that we are looking for a new resident to join our happy house hold. Please take a moment and look us up. Your family is our family!

When you think of Hearts, Hands, and Brain what comes to mind. For me very important body functions. vital to our human eco system.
Heart = blood flow. Is it carrying all the proper nutrients and oxygen that we need to survive?
Hands = Very important stabilizing part of our body. We do most everything with our hands.
Which brings me to the Brain = Don’t fail me now?? Are all these connected in such a way that if one starts to fail they all start to decreases in their usefulness because we cannot communicate properly between them?
To my point about hand yoga (small but powerful) workouts. Easy to do and a good way to start your day. Strengthen your hands for stability, eye/hand coordination for your brain and maybe help get them moving for the day.

How often do you attend your loved ones, Doctors Appts? Do you depend on the communication from doctor to homecare personnel? This is your time to ask very important questions.
Do they have troubles with walking, standing or just moving? Could it be connected to some deficiency in their body? Sometimes as we get older, we think it is just because we are getting old and take a pill to mask the pain as opposed to figuring out what the cause may be. Could it be as simple as making an adjustment in our mineral levels, making them more balanced. I am a Senior and I know that my body requires a little more attention than it has in the past. I am just saying sometimes a little digging can help out our loved one’s ability to move more with less pain. It is at this time of life that we should all work together to make life more manageable and less painful.

What to do for 2026? Wow, these years seem to fly by faster and faster. I hope you got those calendars ready for 2026. Let’s help those caregivers be more prepared for those family moments. This can be everything for everyone.
I know it is a lot to just think about your loved one and how to take care of them but take a moment to reflect and think about those that share in the lives of our loved ones beyond family. The daily care and love that is given when we are not around. Spread a little love and recognize those that give their love to those they care for. It is a task that not many can do and they do it every day. All I can say is you who love on our loved ones are a special kind of Blessing!

Thoughtful reflections in 2025

The air is crisp and it is windy outside. The days are shorter and the daylight is, well who knows where? Our loved ones are starting hibernation but please keep them active. Let’s help out those busy caregivers and get involve, stay in touch with our loved ones needs. We make life important to those that we call family! There are so many things we can do to keep that blood from stagnating. In the past I have talked about one of those under the desk bicycle for seniors. Look it up and give them the gift of exercise and movement.
I really hope that you are getting them ready to spend time with family over the Christmas holiday. So much food, fun and family to be had by one and all!!! May this time bring you and yours a joy fill time and reflection on what is important in this season of life.

How do you feel the year went for your loved one? Did you do all you wanted to with them or for them? Did you get them in a place of peace and joy?

We can’t always get them in a joyful place and I am sure that if you are reading these posts you are doing all you can. I feel like you love, hug, listen, share, and just be there you are doing what you can. I want to congratulate you on being an amazing person, family member or even friend. We are not always in a place where we can give all that they need but you are trying and loving them, that is what is important at this stage of life.
Get those calendars bought for next year and start with events and visits, so that they have something to look forward too. Posting them in their rooms will help the daily caregivers remind them and get them ready for your visits or events. Let this be your gift to them a life to look forward to with YOU!

“Value and Legacy”
Thoughtful reflections in 2025
I was wondering? What do I have in my mind that is valuable to those around me or what is the legacy I am leaving behind.
My kids told me recently that I am the matriarch of the family. What does that mean to me and to them. I ponder what to pass on to them and what those that have gone before me, passed on to me. Some things are passed on by actions we do or event we create and others are what we say and teach them.
All my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles are gone. My sibs and I are the current legacy to our family.
What can we do, to first off, letting those know that they are valuable and that they contain a plethora of information to leave as a legacy. How do we show them that they are important and will not be forgotten? These things are tough to do these days because we are all so busy just trying to figure out how our current life in this world.
I have written a letter to my kids to let them know I love them and that they ALL matter because we all do plain and simple. Love is not conditional or given and taken away at will. Despite differences, these are the days we come together and love on one another because we ALL have value and a legacy to pass on.
Love your loved one and ask them how they see their legacy and anything special they want to pass on. Getting them to open up about these things may be tough but if we share with them, hopefully they can pass on something never expected and could change someone for a life time to come.
I know that we all may not be able to communicate with our loved ones but at least trying and sharing their value, in that brief moment they may take that in.
