I needed another post about my past race- Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
When I got back on my bike after my brake pinching my front tire for the first 8 miles and then waiting 20 min for the bike mechanic, I thought about how I was going to finish my race. I couldāve easily given up. My legs were already cooked, mosttt girls already passed me, what was the point?
Well first, I do this for ME. Not validation from anyone else. I donāt need to place top 10, I donāt need to qualify for another worlds, I donāt need to get X time or prove myself to anyone. I do these races to push MYSELF and see what I can accomplish mentally and physically.
Second-I read something somewhere that said 99% of your life is about the journey, not actually the destination. If you donāt enjoy the journey, youāre going to live 99% of your life unhappy. So, this was the race- the destination. And guess what? The races are amazing but there is also so much time, energy, build up to it, and itās a race, there is a lot of pressure when it comes to actual race day! So, I have remembered this quote and chosen to make sure I am enjoying the JOURNEY of training. The end result, this race, is already the accomplishment of all the training. Not how well I do.
Lastly- Iām not someone who quits. Why would I when I wasnāt even hurt? I was perfectly able to keep going, so I was going to give it my best given my circumstances. (Behind where I āshouldāveā been by 30+ minutes). I know, and those who read my race recap know, I places where I did because of a bike mechanical issue. But guess what? No one cares where you place anyways. So give it your best shot, you already made it this far, and how freaken cool is it racing in New Zealand at the Ironman 70.3 world championship?!! Iāve never been a quitter and wasnāt about to start now, so proud of myself for staying strong mentally and pulling together a hell of a race even given a major bike setback. šŖš¼
