Trauma with EMDR and CPT therapy: Traumatic events can overwhelm our brains and prevent the proper processing of information, leaving traumatic memories stored in fragmented pieces. Often times this leads to the development of PTSD or other disorders. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) utilizes bilateral stimulation of the brain to allow for proper reprocessing of these traumatic events. I also utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as a means to process trauma for individuals who would prefer a talk-therapy approach. Anxiety: Though small amounts of anxiety and stress are normal in day to day life, when that anxiety becomes overwhelming and spirals into panic it may be time to seek out counseling. Counseling can help you learn the tools to ease those overwhelming feelings of panic and get that stress back to a normal and manageable level. Though stress may be unavoidable it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Addictions: Countless people struggle with addiction, and it can come in many shapes and forms. Counseling can help begin to take steps toward healing and can provide the support and guidance to take back control over your life. Children and Adolescents: Children and adolescents learn and process in their own way and need unique care and attention when it comes to mental health and development. I use strategies, such as play therapy, art therapy, and sand tray therapy to help children and adolescents share their deepest thoughts, anxieties, fears, and worries. In addition, therapy helps children and adolescents understand and process past traumatic experiences that may be still affecting their thoughts and behaviors. Relationships: In any relationship it can be easy to lose track of healthy communication and intimacy can fall to the wayside. We all have our own journey in life and when we share that path with a partner some conflict can be inevitable. Every relationship can benefit from counseling whether that be to strengthen bonds or learn healthy communication tools. I utilize the Gottman approach and Emotion-Focused Therapy when working with relationship issues.
