If you have ever wondered, "How often should I get a massage?" - you are not alone! ๐
It's a great question and the answer depends on your circumstances and your goals. Let's break this down a little more. The general "rule" for bodywork is to have one session per month. Regular massage is great maintenance for your body and mind (think of it as an "oil change" for your body and nervous system). ๐โโ๏ธ
But if you're experiencing consistent pain or discomfort, you might want to consider more frequent massage. Let's say you are experiencing pain or discomfort and you do come in for one massage - great! This is when your massage therapist will likely suggest that you come back in a week or two - and no, we aren't just trying to sell this to you. ๐
After getting your initial massage, your body will feel better but then it will want to go back to its old holding patterns. You might notice that within a few days or perhaps a week, your shoulders start to scrunch up, that lower back pain sneaks back up on you and your neck starts to feel stiff again. These may be signs that you need more consistent bodywork. โจ
When you have a specific goal (decreasing pain, increasing range of motion or regulating your nervous system), it is suggested that you get a massage once every week or two for 4-8 weeks so we can train your body and nervous system to do something new. ๐
