We’ve explored temperature and moisture in the language of herbal energetics… but did you know that flavor is also a key to understanding a plant’s gifts?
Each taste is like a whisper of the plant’s medicine, offering clues about how it will interact with your body and spirit:
🍯 Sweet: Sweet herbs like Licorice, Stevia, Marshmallow tend to be nourishing, moistening, balancing, energizing, and soothing.
🌶 Spicy: Spicy herbs like Cayenne, Ginger, Garlic tend to be heating, stimulating, sweat-inducing, energizing, and increase vitality.
🧂Salty: Salty herbs like Seaweed, Chickweed, and Nettle Leaf usually indicate a high mineral content, support kidneys, affect the body's fluid levels, and a replenishing quality.
☕️ Bitter: Bitter herbs like Dandelion Root, Angelica, and Gentian stimulate and improve digestion, cleanse the liver, soothe irritability, and offer detoxification.
🍋 Sour: Sour herbs like Hibiscus and Rosehip, tend to be astringent and cooling, they are helpful for clearing stagnation, "weepy" conditions, and toning tissue in the body. They also tend to be high in Vitamin C and Antioxidants.
🍄 Umami: Umami herbs like Seaweed and Mushrooms tend to be satiating, nourishing, stimulating to appetite. Umami generally indicates high glutamate levels which supports brain health, and metabolism.
✨️ And then there is Schizandra, the “Five Flavor Berry.” Holding all the tastes within one tiny fruit, it’s considered deeply balancing, offering a truly unique experience. We carry Schizandra in the shop—come taste this wonder for yourself!
Herbal energetics remind us that plants speak in many ways—through temperature, moisture, and even flavor.
The more we listen, the more deeply we can align with their wisdom.
