Fire Cowboy was represented at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale for the McNelis Family.

Emmanuel Villarreal's Fire Cowboy sprinted to a one-length victory in Friday's Grade 3, $237,940 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G3) at Evangeline Downs.

Ridden by Jose Herbert for trainer Juan Diaz Jr., Fire Cowboy covered 400 yards in :20.041. The sorrel son of Flying Cowboy 123 earned $118,970 from his second lifetime stakes win.

Fire Cowboy was the third-fastest qualifier from eight trials on November 17. The gelding was bred in Texas by Edward and Von Zae McNelis, and he is out of Perky, a winning California-bred daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Walk Thru Fire. His second dam, the Corona Cartel mare Moonlight Corona, won two stakes at Los Alamitos from 2008-10, and he was a finalist in the '09 La Primera del Ano Derby (G2).

Fire Cowboy was a $22,000 yearling purchase at last year's Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Raced in two states, including Texas, the gelding has banked $225,733 from eight starts, and his five wins include the October 21, 350-yard John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Lone Star Park.

B Second Cowboy, the fastest qualifier, finished seventh in the full field of 10.
