🧠 May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and each Monday, we’re sharing ways to protect your mental health and reclaim your peace.

This week’s reminder: Boundaries (and Joy) are Resistance.

In a world that often demands more than we can give, protecting your time, energy, and joy isn’t just personal — it’s political. Saying no is an act of resistance and self-respect.

Here are 3 ways to practice boundary-setting:
1. Start recognizing “No” as a full sentence.
2. Ask yourself: “Am I saying yes from my heart, or to appease someone else?”
3. Support others by honoring the boundaries they set.

🇺🇸One of America's greatest champions for social justice, Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona to migrant farm workers. He toiled alongside men, women, and children who performed daily, backbreaking labor for meager pay and in deplorable conditions. He served in the US Navy during World War II, and upon returning to the US, he devoted his life to correcting injustices faced by agricultural workers.

Alongside Dolores Huerta, he founded the United Farm Workers, and spent decades growing a movement to advance "La Causa" across the country. Huerta brought forward a unique voice on behalf of women to ensure all workers had fair representation. During a fast in 1972, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta coined the phrase "Si, se puede", which in English means "Yes, it can be done", reflecting their conviction that failure happens only by giving up on nonviolent tactics. Chavez influenced and inspired millions of Americans to seek social justice and civil rights for the poor and disenfranchised in our society.

To honor his service to our country and his legacy, CHN will observe Cesar Chavez Day on Monday, March 31, 2025. All CHN offices will be closed.

🇲🇽Uno de los mayores defensores de la justicia social en Estados Unidos, César Chávez nació en Yuma, Arizona, en una familia de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes. Trabajó junto a hombres, mujeres y niños que realizaban labores diarias agotadoras por un salario miserable y en condiciones deplorables. Sirvió en la Marina de los EE. UU. durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y, al regresar al país, dedicó su vida a combatir las injusticias que enfrentaban los trabajadores agrícolas.

Junto a Dolores Huerta, fundó el Sindicato de Trabajadores Agrícolas Unidos (UFW, por sus siglas en inglés) y pasó décadas expandiendo un movimiento para promover "La Causa" en todo el país. Huerta aportó una voz única en representación de las mujeres, asegurando que todos los trabajadores tuvieran una representación justa. Durante una huelga de hambre en 1972, César Chávez y Dolores Huerta acuñaron la frase "Sí, se puede", que en inglés significa "Yes, it can be done", reflejando su convicción de que el fracaso solo ocurre cuando se abandona la lucha no violenta. 🇺🇸Today is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a time to honor Indigenous communities and raise awareness about the impact of HIV. Between 2018 and 2022, new HIV diagnoses among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) people increased by 30%, making them one of only three ethnic groups to experience a rise. In 2022, only 77.3% of AI/AN people living with HIV knew their status—the lowest of any racial/ethnic group.

🏳️‍🌈 Colorado Health Network offers free HIV testing at most of our offices. If you're sexually active or share equipment for injecting drugs, get tested at least once a year. If you have multiple sexual partners, test every 3-6 months.
