When is JUST acupuncture not an effective treatment?

An observation I have been meditating on as of late is the increased complexity of health conditions that patients are arriving in the clinic with. Too many times lately I have heard “My doctors don’t really have an answer for me.” Patients are more frequently displaying complex pathologies involving multiple layers their body and organ systems according to both Chinese Medicine AND Western medicine.

While acupuncture by itself can have powerful benefits, it was never intended to stand alone as a treatment and to serve as a “cure all” for all conditions, particularly complex conditions. Texts from around 3,000 years ago detailed the importance of herbal formulas in treating illness together with acupuncture.

Digestive issues, sleep difficulties, PCOS and period pain, and autoimmune responses are all examples of things that are effectively treated in the clinic with herbal medicine AND acupuncture.

We invested in creating our own herbal medicinary so we could craft custom herbal formulas for our patients because we experienced how patients taking herbal medicine always get better faster than just using acupuncture alone.

Both Jeff and Jessa have advanced training in using herbal medicine from our 4 year program at National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. Reach out today to find out how herbal medicine can help you!

During my career I can't tell you how many times I have heard "there is no study to support the benefit of _____" 😒

The false narrative that "holistic medicine lacks peer-reviewed studies and clinical trial data" is still perpetuated by people I meet, including medical professionals. While most patients do not need the scientific data because they have experienced the health benefits firsthand, I do often get on PubMed occasionally just to see the latest research for holistic modalities.

Craniosacral therapy is a powerful modality to reduce sympathetic nerve activity, which is often increased in chronic pain patients. Working to help bring the patient in touch with the cranial rhythm relaxes nerve activity and muscle tension, which results in less pain.

I recently reviewed a publication that compiled 10 separate clinical trials demonstrating the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy for significantly reducing chronic pain and improving function for people with neck and back pain, migraine, headache, fibromyalgia, epicondylitis, and pelvic girdle pain.

Most importantly this benefit comes WITHOUT the harmful side effects of pharmaceutical treatments. 😉

Finding space and stillness in a world continually filled with more content and distractions is the most healing opportunity we can offer ourselves. We are all forced to consume so much, but many are still deeply empty inside.

Join us for a chance to find a few hours of stillness within ourselves and with each other through the medium of the plant medicine tea.

We will also have the opportunity for a brief conversation about the healing properties of tea from the perspective of Chinese Medicine.

What is Western Medicine missing when it comes to Cancer Care?

Receiving a diagnosis of cancer is a life altering event, one that takes precedence above everything else. With cancer, all options should be explored, including holistic medicine and herbal therapies. Countless studies have shown a significant benefit to integrative care in improving cancer outcomes.

Western medicine attacks the cancer directly, which it does best. However, this approach misses some of the key pieces of a successful treatment

What conventional cancer treatments do NOT address:

✅ How can I support my body during treatment?

✅ How can I manage the stress and emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis?

✅ What can I do to prevent the cancer from reoccurring?
✅ How can I lower my risk of developing cancer in the first place?

Cancer does not occur in a vacuum, but instead develops and co-exists within our body.

So why would you not focus on treating the environment and conditions that allowed the cancer to develop?

Once a cancer treatment is completed, this supportive environment in the body that allowed the cancer to develop is still present.

Through my cancer research background, I developed an understanding of the biology behind how cancer develops and through my studies in Chinese Medicine, I developed an understanding of the physiology and energetics that allows cancer to develop. Having this dual background offers me unique approach to helping cancer patients.

I have been working to expand my offerings for cancer patients, both in-person and remotely.

If you have family or friends who have cancer or are at risk for cancer please check out my Cancer Care page in our bio and drop me a message.

The page details my in-person offerings but please contact me if you desire help remotely.

Craniosacral therapy functions to gently bring patients back into connection with the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid which bathes the brain and central nervous system. By connecting to this physical fluid wave movement, we connect to a deeper place within ourselves…we come into contact with the underlying organizing force that dives the very life within us.

By connecting to this deeper sense of stillness within the nervous system, Craniosacral Therapy helps many conditions and symptoms that have at their root, an over-active nervous system, such as autoimmunity, migraines, sleep and digestive issues, PTSD, TMJ and jaw issues, and chronic pain. This type of subtle bodywork can also be helpful in recovery from TBIs, whiplash and dental trauma.
