At Inner Shell Therapy, we believe in practicing what we encourage. Our team recently spent the day at Soak Spa prioritizing rest, connection, and self-care — because caring for others starts with caring for ourselves. When therapists feel supported and restored, our clients feel it, too.

Women in menopause and new motherhood both experience disrupted sleep — and that can take a toll on mental health. Prioritize rest where you can. Rest doesn’t have to be perfect to be helpful — any amount counts.

Being with women in the same season reminds you that you’re not alone. Finding your community can make a world of difference. Here are 3 ways to start building your community:

Join a Mom’s or Women’s Group (local moms group, a postpartum support group, or a perimenopause-focused circle)
Attend Group Therapy or Support Groups (reach out to us to find a group for you)
Find Shared-Interest Spaces (book club, walking group, fitness class)

Join our virtual Prenatal and Postpartum Support Group every Thursday at 1pm. Book your spot here: https://wix.to/LQTTR6G

Postpartum isn’t just about diapers and feedings.
It’s an emotional transition — new identity, new body, new everything. If you’re feeling lost, anxious, or detached, you’re not broken. You’re adjusting. Therapy can help you reconnect to you.

This Valentine’s Day, we want to remind you that love isn’t only something you give to others — it’s something you deserve, too. Self-love can look like rest, boundaries, asking for help, or offering yourself grace. You are worthy of care in every season.

Not being okay doesn’t mean something is wrong with you — it means something is happening around you. When support is available, you don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode.
Help is not a last resort. It’s a resource.

Brianna Mai is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals and families navigating life’s many transitions — including pregnancy, postpartum, grief, trauma, identity shifts, and the profound changes that come with becoming a parent. She is especially passionate about supporting pregnant and postpartum mothers through seasons that are both deeply meaningful and deeply challenging.

Brianna believes healing happens through connection — with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. Her approach is relational, attachment-focused, trauma-informed, and collaborative, drawing from emotionally focused therapy, somatic practices, cognitive-based models, and client-centered care. She values slowing down, creating space, and allowing healing to unfold gently and intentionally.

At Inner Shell Therapy, Brianna loves being part of a grounding, compassionate team that dreams big for its clients and leads with softness, purpose, and care. She brings warmth, presence, and genuine curiosity into each session, honoring the whole person — body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Therapy myth she’d love to bust: Therapists aren’t here to give advice — they’re here to help you create the change you want.
Fun fact: She’s inexplicably terrified of worms (and is bravely working on it).
Mantra: The quality of your life is deeply connected to the quality of your relationships.

Hot flashes. Brain fog. Mood swings. Perimenopause can feel like emotional whiplash — and that’s not your imagination. Hormonal shifts directly affect serotonin, your “feel-good” neurotransmitter. You’re not losing control — your body is asking for balance. Listening to your body and seeking professional support is not weakness — it’s self-advocacy.

You’re not just tired — you’re carrying the mental load.
Remember: keeping track of appointments, meals, school forms, and everyone’s emotions counts as work. Here’s how to help alleviate that load:
