We launched the 2025 cohort of the Thrive Marriage Lab last night and started with a topic anyone who has been in a relationship for more than a minute can relate to: conflict.

As humans, conflict is inevitable. As two people in a marriage, it's crucial to learn ways to navigate conflict with curiosity and kindness.

We teach that after some pretty normal differences and disagreements, the next stage is conflict and that, that is when the issue on the table is no longer the issue on the table. Now, you're in the realm of story.

What about you? Are you aware of when your conflict has entered into another space?

The Thrive Marriage Lab with ReStory is for couples of all ages and all stages in their marriage who long for more. We open once a year for a 12-month pathway. The 2025 cohort is open and starts on April 6th!

This is a good picture of what Thrive is doing for couples who join:

"We knew there could be more for us, but we didn't have a clear imagination for what that "more" could be.

We both expressed our desires for more in different ways which led to misunderstanding and hurt.

We danced a dance we didn't know we were dancing. Conflicts led to prolonged periods of silence and isolation from each other.

We didn't have the capacity to communicate our needs clearly without expectation or demand.

Signing up for Thrive was a way for us both, in our own way, to come to terms with the fact that we weren't all we could be,

that our marriage wasn't all we wanted it to be, and the reality that we each held disappointment with each other.

Thrive pushed us toward honesty with ourselves first and then together as we sat with each other during the monthly counseling sessions.

Thrive has been one of the best investments we've made. There is no happy-ever-after ending for us, there never will be,

but Thrive has helped us lean a little more into each other's humanness and be kinder with our differences."

Each year, we lead a cohort of couples through a very intentional, highly designed, high touch journey toward deeper understanding of yourself and your spouse. Couples have been married for any length of years, but all share a longing for more.

It's that time of year when we launch a new cohort of the Thrive Marriage Lab with Tracy Johnson, Chris Bruno, and Beth Bruno.

This 12-month journey is for couples who want to grow more connected, but feel stuck. Couples who need more than a book or a conference, but not the investment of traditional marriage counseling.

We have designed a very intentional pathway at a ridiculously affordable price ($149/month) in an incredibly accessible way.

Each month couples meet online for a live teaching and facilitated PRIVATE discussion, guiding them into conversations they've often never had. Additionally, they meet online once a month with wives and husbands separately.

We take couples into family of origin, conflict styles, attachment, sexuality, and much much more.

"Doors" to the 2025 cohort are now open and close for our first live gathering on April 6th.

"Often people assume that the story equals the wound. “I have a story of abuse” or “I have a story of neglect.” This may be true, but it’s only the beginning of understanding the story.

This element is vital, because we move from the wounding into the impact of the wound. What did we lose when we experienced that wounding? What did that wound cost us? What was taken from us? Therefore, the second ingredient to the false story is our losses.

If the wounding is important to explore, the losses are even more important, because they give shape to our interpretations of ourselves, our world, God, and other people. It is what we lose in the wounding that is even more important to the story-formation than the wounding itself." Chris Bruno | ©ReStory Institute Level Two

Come to our office and you'll find curated pieces of history, art, and books all meant to invite you to a deeper story. For example, this old stereo belonged to the founder's grandfather. The typewriter that sits atop holds a simple story prompt. And the vintage freezer is intended to be opened for a sweet treat. We've created a space for you. And you are welcome here.

Alex Murphy is passionate about Neurodiversity. A learner at heart, he is constantly growing in his understanding personally and for his work with clients. If you're a Northern Colorado vocational ministry leader, come hear Alex at our next Frontlines (Feb. 5, 12pm). Each month we host free conversations at the intersection of psychology and theology. We bring lunch and a local church opens up space. Learn more at www.restory.life/frontlines (or link in bio).

As we come to the end of January, 2025, consider these kind reflections.

Did I enter softly into the new year?

Am I ready for what the next 11 months might hold?

What are the big things I’m hoping to see happen in my life, my family, my work?

What’s Your Story?

Restoration Counseling was founded on the belief that God doesn't make mistakes. When he originally created and designed us, when he thought us up, he had wonderful and beautiful things in mind. Yet we were born into a broken world whose brokenness affects all of us at the deepest levels. He's not interested in trashing his creation, but instead restoring us all to his original design. He will make all things new...again. That is the core of Restoration .

When it comes to our hearts and lives, we are convinced that God's story is more true than the world's. Our logo is a cross-section of a tree...on the outside it's a grown-up tree with strength and struggle, and on the inside are the concentric rings of story...all the ages and seasons, all the ups and downs, all the glories and pains we have experienced, make up the fullness of what that tree is today. To re-story, we must first recognize where we have been in order to know where we are going. At Restoration Counseling, we're interested in restoring the heart on all levels.
