Be where you are, my dear fellow Monkey Whisperers. Stay connected.

For people with a trauma history, it can be difficult to separate ourselves from the trauma. We may feel badly about ourselves, experience excessive guilt and shame, or feel a general malaise or "dirty" feeling. We may experience ourselves as if we were somehow the perpetrators or cause of the trauma.

We are not our traumas. But our traumas can nestle themselves so deeply into our bodies, that they change the way our brain functions; and those thoughts and feelings of badness and guilt become our reality.

I encourage all of us to be gentle with ourselves, wherever we are. And as we notice the pain, may we also notice the spark of life burning within us. Friends, it is indeed a miracle that we are even here.

Have a beautiful day, my fellow Monkey Whisperers. Stay connected.

Psychotherapy is an individuation process.

If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
