I get asked this question a lot when I share with people that I give bodywork to babies!
But why would a brand new, perfect, precious little bundle need body work anyways?
And the answer is really simple— the same reason any body benefits from modalities like chiropractic, massage therapy, PT, acupuncture etc.
The process of gestation and birth are beautiful, but can often be intense and leave lasting imprints on the fascia and structure of the body. Add to that the challenges that come with life outside the womb and babies are perfect candidates for well-trained support focused on helping them unwind patterns of tension and settle comfortably into their bodies.
Craniosacral Therapy is a particularly fitting modality for the tiniest of humans because it is slow, gentle, and completely guided by them! In Craniosacral Therapy, the focus of the practitioner is listening, not doing. And babies love to tell us their stories!
Some specific reasons I’ve had clients seek out Craniosacral Therapy for their babies include:
•Asymmetrical head shapes or face/jaw tension
•Medically-assisted birth (forceps, vacuum)
•Birth trauma/injury
•Induction, Cesarean, or premature birth
•Breastfeeding difficulties
•Unhappy disposition (startling easy, scared, angry, irritated, not comfortable in body)
•Digestive issues (constipation, vomiting, excessive spit-up, reflux, colic)
•Before/after procedures (tongue-tie revision, other medical procedures)
•Congenital or neurological problems
