New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced that an individual who was diagnosed with measles spent a night at the Quality Inn, 450 Paisano St. NE, Albuquerque NM, from December 28, 2025 to December 29, 2025, leading to a potential measles exposure in that area.

Tséhootsooí Medical Center is providing this notification so that individuals who may have potentially been exposed, can watch for symptoms and seek medical care if symptoms develop.

Details of possible measles public exposure:
- Location: Quality Inn, 450 Paisano St. NE, Albuquerque NM
- Date: December 28 – 29, 2025
- Time: 11:45 p.m. Dec 28 through 7 a.m. Dec 29, 2025 (Measles can linger in the air for up to two hours after the infectious person leaves the area.)

Measles spreads by direct contact with an infected person or through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. A person with measles can give the disease to other people even before they feel sick. Approximately 90 percent of unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to measles may become infected.

Measles can cause serious illness, especially in young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. Measles is preventable with two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, typically given during childhood.

What to do if you were at the specified location on the date and time of exposure:
- Make sure you are up-to-date with the recommended number of measles (MMR) vaccinations.

Anyone who may have been exposed should watch for symptoms. The symptoms of measles generally appear about 7-21 days after a person is exposed, and include:
- High fever (> 101°F)
- Cough
- Feeling run down, achy (malaise)
- Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
- Runny nose
- Blotchy rash that usually starts on the face (starting at the hairline), extends down the body and can involve palms and soles

Individuals who develop any symptoms of measles should self-isolate, stay away from others and seek medical care. People with measles symptoms should first call their healthcare provider or medical facility before going in so they can receive instructions to prevent exposing others.

Visit http://measles.doh.nm.gov for more information.

If you have any of these symptoms, we ask that you: Remain in your vehicle and call 928.729.8600 OR inform a security officer stationed at the entrance of TMC & NDHC

These actions of additional health screening are in response to reported confirmed measles cases in New Mexico and Arizona.

The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is the most effective way to avoid contracting measles. If you have not received the MMR vaccine or are unsure of your vaccination status, please contact your local health provider. Babies under 12 months of age do not have mature enough immune systems to be vaccinated against measles, so it is important to ensure anyone who will be interacting with them has received the MMR vaccine.

We appreciate your understanding and support. For updates and changes, please look at our Facebook or Instagram pages.

This year, the Medical Nutrition Therapy Department shared monthly recipe cards for visitors to take home and make. Each card also had a punny nutritional theme for the month. Our favorite was April and ‘Find Your Calm and inner ‘peas’. 🤭 The cards also served as an invitation to connect with the Medical Nutrition Therapy department. They are an excellent resource in helping patients prevent and manage health conditions through diet and counseling. Consult with your provider to see if a referral for MNT is best for you. They can help you reach your 2026 health goals!

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! Here’s to eating healthier in 2026!
