Similac, Alimentum and EleCare baby formulas are being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer. The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers on Friday not to use or purchase the formulas or certain powdered infant formula produced at the Sturgis, MI facility.

To determine if your formula is included in the recall, go to SimilacRecall.com and enter in the lot number found on your formula container.

If you are a WIC client and need additional assistance, please contact Webster County Health Department at 515-573-4107.

Boosting immunity this time of year is so important! Make sure you’re using your WIC fruit and veggie allowance to the best benefit!
• Citrus- high in Vitamin C- grab mandarin oranges for a quick snack! Use lemon or lime juice to flavor water. Sprinkle cinnamon over a grapefruit (also high in zinc!)for a mid day pick me up!
• Broccoli- roast with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper to keep the amazing vitamins in tact full of fiber and immune boosting nutrients
• Spinach- toss in a salad bowl with some mandarin orange slices, balsamic vinegar and oil for a quick side salad. Or throw into a blender with frozen fruit for a supercharged smoothie!

Webster County Health Department will be hosting their annual drive-thru flu shot clinic on September 25th from 8:30-11 AM at the WCHD parking lot, 723 1st Ave. S., Fort Dodge.

WCHD can bill for most insurances. If you have any questions about the flu shot and your insurance, please call WCHD at 515-573-4107. Scheduling is not required if you are choosing to receive only the flu shot.

Moderna third doses will also be available at the clinic for the immune compromised only. If you qualify, please call WCHD to schedule your third dose at the drive thru or schedule online at WebsterCountyIA.gov.

At this time, WCHD is awaiting guidance on booster doses, which is not the same as a third dose.

Pregnant and recently pregnant people are at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 when compared with non-pregnant people. But getting an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy reduces these risks—and may provide some protection for breastfed babies as well.
