Honored to have Fort Drum's own Dr. Ryan Calhoun (right), a licensed clinical psychologist with the Fort Drum MEDDAC, volunteer his time to present at the NYS Psychological Association convention Sept. 13, 2025.

His presentation, “Cultural and Clinical Considerations for Treating Post-9/11 Veterans,” provided valuable insights for therapists with limited military experience. With New York being home to over 800,000 veterans and military installations like Fort Drum, his expertise on military culture and its impact on clinical practice is especially critical.

Dr. Calhoun's talk covered unique military experiences, language, and beliefs, and reviewed evidence-based treatments for conditions like PTSD, depression, and insomnia. He also shared ways to incorporate military cultural competency into assessment and treatment.

Thank you, Dr. Calhoun, for your dedication to serving both our Soldiers and the wider community.
