As the 4th of July fireworks begin, my thoughts are with all my combat veterans.

Remember to:

1. Wear your ear plugs or noise canceling headphones
2. Challenge unhelpful thoughts that do not fit your current reality (list 5 pieces of evidence that you are safe)
3. Get close to your pets, pet and cuddle them to self soothe (more than likely they need comforting too!)
4. Engage in deep breathing exercises
5. Turn on some meditation music/soothing sounds
6. Phone a friend to share your distress
7. Remember the crisis lines are available to you. Use them…even if you don’t feel like you are in crisis—if you feel uneasy call any ways—-they are there to support you.

**Veteran Mental Health Resources:

1. VA Vet Centers (search your local office)

2. VAMC Mental Health Walk in

Trauma is stored in the body.

If you don’t intentionally release it from your body, it becomes your death sentence—stored up trauma deteriorates your mental and physical health.

Black women are disproportionately diagnosed with cardiovascular & autoimmune diseases in the United States— these diseases develop partly from genetic pre-disposition but also from overexposure to stress.

You don’t have to be stuck with every pain that you experience.

Expel that trauma from your body by moving your body vigorously & often—

Lift weights, destroying tainted muscles poluted with cortisol & rebuild new ones.

Release some of the fat (yes I know we love our curves, but fat stores toxins also). Release some of it and notice how much more energetic you become.

Sweat out negative affect related toxins (stress chemicals) via running, dancing, walking, going to a sauna.

Drink lots of water, expelong toxins via urine.

Clean out your gut, eat healthy gut bacteria.

Drink detox teas.

Get at least 15 minutes of sunlight. Research shows this helps support the body produce vitamins that rid toxins out of the body. It also supports the body’s natural functions to regulate chemical balance.

Say how you feel—talk it out, therapy, journal, create via performing arts, crafts, or technology.

Ladies, don’t despise or skip your mentrual cycle—let it clean that toxic man’s DNA out of your body and your energy!

Take herbal supplements. Bathe in herbs.

Eat the rainbow (colorful fruits and veggies daily).

Fast regularly from pleasures (food, s*x, alcohol/drugs, social media, etc.)

Rinse and repeat—over and over and over until your walk, your talk, your energy is light(er).

Releasing is a huge part of healing & that’s on Dr. Cortnie Baity, LMFT— living what I teach! 🤏🏾✨

Some of us have been socialized to abandon ourselves so terribly that we feel guilty for doing what is in our best interest.

Sometimes it is not possible for their best interest and yours to be satisfied.

If you are struggling with the guilt of being labeled “selfish” for not always sabotaging yourself for the sake of others—consider this…

A more accurate and empowering word for “choosing yourself”—without the negative connotation of “selfish”—is:

*Self-honoring:
It conveys that you're respecting your own needs, values, and well-being without diminishing others.

* Self-respecting – focusing on maintaining dignity and boundaries

* Self-prioritizing – neutral, clear about setting priorities

* Self-advocating – emphasizes standing up for your own needs

* Self-affirming – highlights aligning with your truth and worth

* Boundaried – if it's about saying no or protecting space

* Authentic – if you're honoring your true self

* Sovereign – poetic and powerful; implying full ownership over your choices and life

In celebration of my 10th year serving as a mental health therapist and 4th year in private practice—

I am ECSTATIC to announce the release of my first book: Adulting Can Be Nebulous. No Judgement. Here’s Some Help.

It is an insightful self-help guide
from the desk of a licensed mental health therapist (me! ^_^). Written with warmth, wisdom, and a touch of
humor. In this book, I unpack common topics that leave many adults feeling confused, overwhelmed,
or stuck—offering helpful perspective, suggestions, and encouragement to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and confident that you can handle this thing called life.

Available for purchase on Amazon on May 1, 2025
