Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is characterized by an abrupt deafness in one or both ears, whether all at once or over the course of a few hours or days. Specifically, it indicates an individual has lost a certain amount of frequencies and the intensity of sound—30-plus decibels (dB) in 3 or more contiguous frequencies—in the ear.

SSNHL is not as uncommon as you may think. Last year alone, at Hyperbaric Medical Solutions we performed over 750 treatments for this devastating illness.

To be successful, both skin grafts and flaps need a healthy, oxygenated transplant site.
A skin graft refers to skin transplanted onto a wound. A skin flap is a transplant that includes skin plus deeper tissues like muscle, blood vessels, and bone.

HBOT is beneficial to patients ahead of these surgeries.

HBOT is used to prepare the wound side before the transplant and to promote healing after the skin graft of flap transplant by increasing the flow of blood and oxygen to the affected area.
