Your eyes deserve the same attention as your blood sugar during National Glaucoma Awareness Month. 💙

Glaucoma is known as the “silent thief of sight” because it often develops with no early warning signs. For people living with diabetes, the risk is even higher — making eye exams, glucose management, and early detection essential for long-term vision health.

Blood sugar fluctuations can affect eye pressure, circulation, and the optic nerve, all of which play a role in glaucoma progression. Understanding these patterns helps you protect your vision before symptoms appear.

Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) like the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Dexcom G7 give you real-time insights into glucose highs and lows, allowing you to manage changes that may impact your eye health.

At Aptiva Medical, we simplify access to CGMs through insurance support, doctor coordination, and direct-to-door delivery—so you can stay proactive, informed, and confident in your health.

Bright, herby, and perfectly balanced—this Lemon-Herb Salmon with Roasted Brussels Sprouts makes a fresh, diabetes-friendly dinner in just one pan. 🍋✨

Gather ingredients:
• 2 lemons
• 6 garlic cloves
• 2 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
• 1 tsp ground pepper
• ¼ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
• 4 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, divided
• 1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed & shaved (about 6 cups)
• 1 shallot, thinly sliced (¼ cup)
• 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each, skin-on)
• ½ tsp salt + ⅛ tsp salt, divided

Let’s bring it all together:
1. Preheat your broiler with the rack in the middle position. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil. Zest 2 lemons to get 2 tsp zest and juice them to get ¼ cup lemon juice. Mince 4 garlic cloves (about 1½ tbsp) and smash the remaining 2 garlic cloves.
2. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried thyme), 1 tsp ground pepper, ¼ tsp crushed red pepper, 2 tsp lemon zest, 3 tbsp of the ¼ cup lemon juice, and the 1½ tbsp minced garlic. Add 1 tbsp olive oil and whisk until smooth.
3. On the baking sheet, toss 6 cups shaved Brussels sprouts, ¼ cup sliced shallot, and the 2 smashed garlic cloves with 1 tbsp olive oil. Spread evenly.
4. Nestle 4 (6-oz) salmon fillets, skin-side down, among the vegetables. Drizzle the lemon-herb mixture over the salmon and Brussels sprouts.
5. Broil for 10 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily and the Brussels sprouts are tender. Sprinkle with ½ tsp salt.
6. Mash the roasted garlic cloves on a cutting board. In a small bowl, whisk the paste with 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice, and ⅛ tsp salt. Drizzle over the salmon and veggies, tossing lightly.

Serve warm for a bright, protein-packed dinner that keeps your plate balanced and your blood sugar steady. 💙✨

You’re not alone — and you don’t have to start big to make a big difference. 💙

Regular movement is one of the most powerful tools for blood sugar control. It helps lower glucose, improves insulin sensitivity for up to 24 hours, reduces inflammation, and supports your heart, mood, and energy. Small steps, done consistently, create long-term stability.

Here are simple ways exercise supports better glucose control:
• Your muscles use glucose for fuel during activity.
• Your body becomes more responsive to insulin after exercise.
• Glucose moves into your cells more easily — even when insulin is low.
• Activity helps create more predictable glucose patterns over time.

What kind of exercise works best?
• Aerobic activity — walking, swimming, dancing, or cycling (150 minutes a week).
• Strength training — weights, bands, or bodyweight exercises (2+ times a week).
• Flexibility & balance — stretching, yoga, or tai chi to prevent injury and maintain mobility.

A few safety reminders:
• Check glucose before exercise (avoid 250 mg/dL).
• Carry fast-acting carbs.
• Stay hydrated.
• Wear supportive shoes.
• Start slow and increase gradually — consistency matters more than intensity.

Continuous glucose monitors like the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Dexcom G7 make exercise safer by showing glucose trends before, during, and after activity. They help you adjust your meals, medication, and workout intensity with confidence.

At Aptiva Medical, we support your movement journey with CGMs, glucose meters, education, and personalized guidance. Because your routine should help you feel stronger — not stressed. 💙

This month is Thyroid Awareness Month—a reminder that thyroid health plays a major role in blood sugar balance and overall well-being. 💙

Your thyroid helps regulate metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and energy levels. When it’s underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism), it can cause unpredictable glucose changes, fatigue, appetite shifts, and challenges with daily diabetes management.

For people living with diabetes, understanding thyroid function is essential. Thyroid disorders can increase insulin resistance, cause sudden highs or lows, and impact how your body responds to medication and food.

Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) like the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Dexcom G7 help you stay ahead of these changes. With real-time glucose tracking and trend alerts, you can spot unusual patterns that may signal thyroid imbalance and share accurate data with your care team.

At Aptiva Medical, we simplify access to CGMs by handling insurance, coordinating with your doctor, and delivering your device directly to your door—so you can manage thyroid and glucose changes with confidence.

• 1 small onion, diced
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 medium carrot, diced
• 1 stalk celery, diced
• 1 lemon, juiced
• 2 tbsp tahini
• 4 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
• ¼ tsp salt
• ¼ tsp pepper
• 1 tsp dried thyme
• 19 oz canned white beans, rinsed & drained

Here’s how to make it:
1. Add 1 tbsp olive oil to a large pot over medium heat. Stir in 1 small diced onion and 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

5. Add 3 cups chopped kale and the remaining white beans, stirring until everything is combined.
6. Remove from heat and let the soup rest for 5 minutes so the flavors can come together.

Did you know anemia can affect glucose readings?

When red blood cell levels are low, blood sugar measurements may appear higher or lower than expected. This can make diabetes management feel confusing—especially if numbers don’t seem to match how you feel.

That’s why it’s important to look at glucose trends over time, not just single readings. Tools like Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) help provide a fuller picture by showing patterns and changes throughout the day.

If you have anemia or suspect it, talk with your healthcare provider about how it may impact your readings and overall diabetes care.

At Aptiva Medical, we support informed diabetes management with continuous monitoring tools, education, and personalized guidance—so you can better understand your numbers with confidence.
