Have you seen these tools in use? đź‘€

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine that has been used for centuries to alleviate pain and promote healing. The practice involves creating suction on the skin using special cups. The suction can help increase blood flow to the area, which can reduce inflammation and promote the natural healing process.

The benefits of cupping can be broken down into 4 simple effects:

📌 Helps with Pain: Cupping therapy can help relieve pain in your body, such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

📌 Boosts Circulation: Cupping therapy can help increase blood flow and lymphatic flow in your body, which can help reduce inflammation and promote healing.

📌 Promotes Relaxation: Cupping therapy can help you relax by releasing tension in your muscles and improving your overall mood.

📌 Improves Recovery: Cupping therapy can help stimulate your lymphatic system, which can help your body circulate fluid and restore function.

Nikki DeLuca’s story is an incredible one.

You can tell she is extremely passionate about fitness, helping individuals get into the best shape of their lives.

You can imagine when her injuries happened how much that affected her.

Not being able to lift, be healthy herself, and how that affected her work and overall life.

What sucks even more is that she didn’t get the help and care she deserved.

We’ve heard it from countless others how broken healthcare is.

Just a factory, churning patients like numbers on a computer.

Failing to listen, find the real problem, and get real results.

That’s why we created AVION Sports Rehab.

We’ve changed many lives just like Nikki’s and our mission is to be the change healthcare needs.

Ever seen these metal tools in action? 👀
That’s IASTM—Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization—and it’s a game changer for recovery. Unlike traditional massage, IASTM uses precision tools to improve blood flow and restore movement faster. 💥

IASTM isn’t about grinding away adhesions — What’s really happening? Through something called Neuromodulation, we influence the nervous system to change how the body perceives pain, tension, or movement. When we apply techniques like IASTM (or even dry needling, massage, or cupping), we’re not just targeting muscles or fascia — we’re sending powerful input to the brain and spinal cord to help “recalibrate” how those tissues feel and function.

In simpler terms:

🔹 The tools stimulate nerve endings in the skin and fascia
🔹 That input travels to your brain and spinal cord
🔹 The nervous system then dials down pain and tightness
🔹 Result = improved mobility, reduced soreness, and faster recovery

By stimulating the skin and fascia with precision tools, we help the nervous system downregulate pain, improve circulation, and restore normal movement patterns. It’s about retraining, not scraping.

What we’re really doing is helping your body feel safe enough to move again — and that’s the key to lasting change.

Whether you’re dealing with tightness, overuse injuries, or just want to recover smarter—not harder—IASTM helps you bounce back with less soreness and more freedom.

🔹 Faster recovery
🔹 Improved mobility
🔹 Targeted tissue release

Think of it as deep tissue massage—but smarter, faster, and way more effective. 💪

Have you tried Blood Flow Restriction training?💪🏻

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training involves using cuffs or bands to partially restrict blood flow to a limb during low-load resistance exercise (typically 20%- 30% of 1RM).

What It Does:

♦️Limits venous return, creating metabolic stress and cellular swelling

♦️Promotes fast-twitch fiber motor recruitment even with light weights

♦️Stimulates muscle protein synthesis and growth hormone release

♦️Enhances hypertrophy and strength gains without heavy lifting

♦️Clinically proven to be effective for recovery, rehab, and muscle growth

♦️Inhibits Myostatin - prevents muscle breakdown

Are you lifting but feeling pain during the movement or when you reach a certain weight? 🏋️

Watch these videos and read the tips and tricks to improve your lifts from a Barbell Rehab Method Certified Specialist. You will see the proper ways to perform a Deadlift and Overhead Press. 💪🏻

âś…Deadlift

- Setup so you are close to the bar and so that your chest is facing forward.

- You can vary hand grips from traditional to over/under.

- Engage your lats to keep the bar close to your body and have thoracolumbar fascia help your core to protect your back.

- Take the slack out.

- Stand up keeping the bar as close to your body as possible and do the same on the descent.

- Reset at the bottom each time.

âś…Overhead Press

- Choose a bar height in which you can get under it with your knuckles facing straight up and have your shoulder blades retracted, then perform the walkout.

- Grip tight and squeeze shoulder blades again.

- The bar path should move around your head, try not to move your head around the bar.

- For an ideal overhead press you need 180 degrees of shoulder flexion in order to not make compensations with the torso/thoracic spine.

- If you do not possess anywhere near 180 degrees then the landline press is a safer lift for you to get benefits from a similar type of pressing motion.

- Throughout the lift your head and eyes should be facing straight forward and you should trust the bar path.

Do you play golf? ⛳️🏌️🏌️‍♀️

Our Senior physical therapist, Dr. Nicole Lescano is TPI certified and can help with your swing! The following videos are examples of warm-up exercises that you can do before playing golf⛳️

“There are no shortcuts to success” -Annika Sorenstam. This starts with the warm-up. It should be dynamic and be done before the driving range warm-up, before your round of golf.

Examples are based on the top failed tests by younger and older male golfers on the TPI level 1 physical screen done at AVION Sports Rehab.

First up is the pelvic tilt which can be done supported with the golf club to focus on mobility or unsupported to challenge stability, while working on range of motion. The swing starts with the pelvis and throughout the swing golfers average about 20 degrees of pelvic tilt.

Dynamic hamstring stretch and hip hinge is next as most male golfers fail the toe touch test. This can be done bilaterally or unilaterally.

Next, single leg stance with torso turns for a balance challenge to engage glutes and core. TPI explains that glutes are the king for stability and generating power, whereas the core is the queen of the swing as it stabilizes the spine. This helps power transfer from the lower body to the upper body and finally to the club.

Hip internal and external rotation active range of motion, as the lower quarter rotation test is often a difficult test for younger male golfers to pass.

Wrapping up with shoulder isometric warm-up in internal and external rotation. Young golfers usually have range of motion and/or stability impairments with the 90/90 test.

If you want to learn more, come to our Golf Workshop on Thursday April 24th, !

Watch out Fort Lauderdale! Introducing AVION Sports Rehab’s premier pickleball team🏓👀

This past week our student physical therapist, Emad, did a pickleball inservice. In the past few years, pickleball has slowly started becoming one of the most fast growing sports and activities.

Pickleball is fun—until an injury sidelines you. It is vital that you have a proper warm-up, mobility, and strength training to keep you on the court and out of the clinic!

Pickleball continues to grow in popularity, but with increased play comes greater risks of injury. At AVION, we see firsthand how targeted rehab and injury prevention can make a huge difference in keeping athletes active and pain-free.

Common injuries we treat from pickleball are rotator cuff strains, tennis elbow, knee pain, achilles tendonitis, and ankle sprains. Many of which are preventable with early intervention and proper movement strategies.

Play Smart, Move Well!
