Frothy Tear Film? Here’s What It Means πŸ‘οΈ

If you’ve ever noticed bubbles or foam along your eyelid margins, you might be seeing signs of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) β€” a common cause of evaporative dry eye.

Causes include:
πŸ‘οΈ Blocked or inflamed oil glands (meibomian glands)
πŸ‘οΈ Poor blinking habits (especially from screen time)
πŸ‘οΈ Rosacea or oily skin
πŸ‘οΈ Poor lid hygiene

Symptoms:
⚠️ Burning, gritty, or sandy sensation
⚠️ Blurry vision that improves with blinking
⚠️ Foamy or bubbly tears
⚠️ Red or irritated eyelid margins

Treatment Options:
✨ Warm compresses & lid massage
✨ Lid scrubs or hypochlorous spray
✨ Omega-3 supplements
✨ In-office treatments (IPL, BlephEx, etc.)
✨ Artificial tears (preferably oil-based)

Consistent lid care makes a big difference in improving comfort and tear quality!

Why Do We See Halos Around Lights? ✨✨

Ever notice glowing rings around headlights or street lights at night? πŸ‘€

Seeing halos can sometimes be normal β€” for example, after staring at bright lights or due to dry eyes. BUT β€” persistent halos may signal:

πŸ”Ž Early cataracts
πŸ”Ž uncorrected astigmatism
πŸ”Ž Corneal swelling (edema)
πŸ”Ž Glaucoma
πŸ”Ž Contact lens overwear
πŸ”Ž Post-LASIK healing

πŸ’‘ If you’re seeing halos regularly, it’s worth having your eyes checked. Early detection matters!

Vision loss is NOT an inevitable part of getting older

πŸ‘΅πŸ» At some point in your 40’s, you may notice blurriness in your close-up vision. This is called presbyopia and most people will use reading glasses at this point.

πŸ‘΄πŸ» At a point between your 60’s and 80’s, most people will develop cataracts. The vision worsens at distance and up close and glasses don’t seem to help anymore. Age-related cataracts are NOT a disease and can be corrected with a simple surgery.

⚠️ Blurry vision can sometimes be a sign of a more serious eye condition such as macular degeneration. Lots of eye diseases don’t have any symptoms in the early stages which is why regular eye exams are important for early diagnosis and treatment.
