Lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, but it does not have to be a silent disease.
For many patients, the difference between a treatable cancer and an advanced one is simple: when it is found.

For adults who meet high-risk criteria — especially current or former smokers — a low-dose CT scan can detect lung cancer at earlier, more curable stages. Early detection gives us more options, gentler treatments, and a better chance at long-term survival.

This Lung Cancer Awareness Month, I encourage you to learn your risk, ask about screening, and share this information with someone you love.

🔹 Have questions about whether screening is right for you?

Last week, I had the privilege of meeting with the Chair of the Florida Senate Health Committee and her dedicated team to discuss ways to expand access to cancer research, clinical trials, and high-quality care across our state.

Grateful for the opportunity to be part of this effort and for leaders who share the vision of improving cancer outcomes for all Floridians. đź’™

It was an honor to speak with Channel 7 about the incredible progress we’ve made in the fight against cancer.

Over the years, we’ve seen mortality rates drop and survival continue to rise — not by chance, but through dedication, early detection, and innovation. These are the breakthroughs that remind us what’s possible when science, compassion, and community come together.

Every patient story fuels the mission to do more, reach further, and never stop improving care. There’s still work ahead, but the hope we see today is stronger than ever. 🙏

Showing up for cancer patients …on Capitol Hill in Washington DC to meet with FL members of Congress to advocate for cancer research funding, Multi-Cancer early detection blood tests, and concerns about the looming crisis impacting the health system if the ACA tax credit issue is not addressed…in the operating room in Southeast Florida and in Jacksonville FL as a moderator of a distinguished panel of health care leaders to discuss the challenges cancer patients face in the Sunshine State and how Federal and State policymakers can help end cancer as we know it for everyone.

Cancer does not care who you vote for or against.
Cancer is nonpartisan and bipartisan.
Cancer does not care about your political philosophy, ideology or what you think the role of government is or is not.
Cancer can be stopped if we all work together and if we support our cancer patients, cancer survivors and scientists.

Showing up for cancer patients as a board certified surgical oncologist and MD JD in this dual role these last few busy weeks has given me hope for the future, reminded me how much our leaders of both parties care about what our cancer patients are going through, and it has inspired me to work harder.

Remember, politics is the art of the possible and if you care about the fight to end cancer, if you want to share your voice in the historic struggle to flip the script on cancer, join the American cancer society cancer action network and/or support the mission by fighting cancer with a donation or an email or a phone call:

🇺🇸 Today we remember.

September 11th is more than a date in history—it is a reminder of resilience, unity, and the incredible strength of the human spirit.

As we honor the lives lost and the heroes who rose in the face of tragedy, let us also reflect on what it means to live with love, devotion, and service to others. Patriotism is not just about our country, but about how we show up for one another every day.

May we continue to carry forward the values of courage, compassion, and hope.

Understanding is the first step towards prevention. When it comes to re**al cancer, being informed about the risk factors is crucial. Key elements such as your family history, dietary habits, and age can significantly influence your risk of developing this condition.

It's essential to have open and honest discussions with your healthcare provider about these risks and the importance of regular screenings. Early detection through appropriate screening can make a significant difference in outcomes and treatment options. Don't wait until it's too late—take proactive steps to safeguard your health today.

📊 Some important facts about re**al cancer:

- Re**al cancer often starts with non-cancerous polyps. Regular screenings can help detect these early.

- Lifestyle changes, such as reducing red and processed meat intake, can lower your risk.

- Symptoms can include changes in bowel habits, re**al bleeding, and abdominal discomfort. Don't ignore these signs.

- Advanced treatments, including minimally invasive surgery, are now available, offering better recovery.

- Support groups and resources are available for patients and families to navigate the emotional impact of diagnosis and treatment.

Have you had a screening recently? Share your experiences or questions in the comments.
