Leadership CILB

Leadership CILB CILB's Leadership Program is the first of it's kind, nationwide, with the objective to create future advocates within the disability community

Leadership CILB is designed to expand the skills and knowledge of individuals with disabilities who have demonstrated leadership within their profession and their community. Through collaborative and interactive experiences, class members become exposed to a broad range of issues, learn valuable skills, and use their collective knowledge to engage in a meaningful community improvement project in Broward County. The Center for Independent Living of Broward is a cross-disability advocacy organization, one of over 700 throughout the nation. An important part of our mission, the board of directors and staff believe that advocacy is the lynchpin to including people with disabilities in the mainstream of the community.

Leadership CILB is a special leadership opportunity for individuals with disabilities in Broward County. Run through the Center for Independent Living of Broward, the program develops individuals’ advocacy abilities while also fostering a networking of disability advocates in our community. Selected individuals meet monthly during the year to develop their leadership ability, network with community leaders, and learn how to serve as disability advocates.

The ten-month leadership program begins with an Opening Retreat in September. The following monthly Program Days expose participants to the competencies necessary for strong leadership and advocacy. During the program year, participants also work together on a community project designed to put their leadership into practice. The program culminates with a Graduation Reception where class participants network with Leadership CILB alumni. Program graduates are afforded special networking and educational opportunities.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and corporate sponsorship, we are able to offer scholarships to program participants that cover the program cost – participants just need to be able to make their own travel arrangements to and from program locations (some transportation assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis).
