Sports medicine is the branch of the healing arts profession that utilizes an integrated, comprehensive approach to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sport-and exercise-related injuries, disorders, dysfunctions, and disease processes. The practice of sports medicine applies the physician’s medical knowledge, clinical skills, and attitudes to individuals engaged in sport and exercise. Primary Care Sports Medicine specialists recognize the need for an exclusive skill set in providing care for athletic patients.
Training includes the Basic Standards set forth by ACGME with formidable rotations in Adult and Pediatric Orthopedics, Primary Care Sports Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. Continuity clinics in both Primary Care Sports Medicine and the Fellow’s Primary Specialty are done longitudinally throughout the year.
On-field, Ringside, Courtside and track-side involvement throughout the year occurs with High School, Amateur and Professional athletics.
