A Unique Blessing
Every time I step into the OR, I’m reminded what a unique blessing it is to still be there — collaborating and learning alongside talented colleagues like Dr. Erik Spayde, MD. As one of the only orthopedic spine surgeons who also serves as CEO of KIC Ventures, a physician-led healthtech investment firm, I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to do both: to stay close to patients, collaborate with peers, and help drive innovation forward.

Looking forward to participating at the North American Spine Society — to present, listen, learn, and reconnect with the academic community that helped shape my journey.

Have You Ever Believed in a Dream That Finally Came True?
Standing beside these patents today, I reflect on the journey from filing my first patent during the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program in 2000 to leading KIC Ventures, a surgeon-led private equity firm with a majority-owned portfolio dedicated to spine innovations.

What began as a drive to improve spine surgery tools has grown into a mission to support physicians and enhance patient outcomes worldwide. Each patent on this wall is a testament to the teamwork, innovation, and commitment to solving meaningful problems.

My deepest thanks to the visionary colleagues, engineers, and everyone who shares this mission. Together, we’re paving the future of spine care.
