Noticing new floaters in your vision?

But when they appear suddenly or are accompanied by flashes of light or a shadow in your vision, it could signal something more serious, like a retinal tear or detachment. Congrats to Laura for submitting these striking Optos images of untreated advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy OU. These photos are from a 58-year-old female patient of Dr. Rodriguez's.

There are extensive tractional bands in the posterior pole surrounding both maculas. This is an ominous situation because there is often progressive contracture of these membranes with the potential for tractional retinal detachments necessitating future surgery. The initial treatment for this patient will be anti-VEGF therapy and PRP laser.
