Dimitrios I. Tsarpalas

October 8, 1931 – December 8, 2025

Dimitrios I. Tsarpalas, 94, of Fort Lee, NJ peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on December 8, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Dimitrios will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Dimitrios was born on October 8, 1931, in Kinigos, Pylos, Greece to Ioannis and Martha Tsarpalas and was the third of six brothers. As a child, he and his family persisted through the struggles of the Great Depression and Second World War. Dimitrios held a deep reverence for his birthplace and Greek heritage, which always remained a treasured part of his life.

Dimitrios served in the Greek army until 1952, during which time he was stationed in Patras and Kilkis. Returning home to Kinigos, Dimitrios met his beloved wife Dimitra (née Kambilis) and the two were married in 1956. Soon after their marriage, Dimitrios and Dimitra welcomed the pride and joy of their lives, three beautiful daughters Panagiota, Martha, and Stavroula. Dimitrios and Dimitra spent sixty cherished and loving years together until Dimitra fell asleep in the Lord on July 9, 2017.

In search of a better future, Dimitrios immigrated to the United States in 1970 on a shoemaker work visa. Alone, carrying only what was on him, and without knowing a word of English, Dimitrios persevered to support his family in Kinigos while establishing new roots in America. In 1973, he brought his entire family to the United States and settled in Fort Lee, New Jersey, a place he called home and loved deeply for the remainder of his life. Dimitrios owned and operated the Fort Lee Shoe Repair until his retirement in 1995 where his craftsmanship and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his customers. He was also a beloved member of the community and a familiar face on the corner of Linwood Avenue and Main Street where he served as a crossing guard for many years.

Dimitrios could often be seen sitting in his lawn chair enjoying the shade of the large maple tree in front of his home. He was an expert gardener and his vegetable garden was the envy of every passerby. He enjoyed a spirited conversation and was the first to offer his opinion on a variety of topics such as the news and politics. He was an avid reader of the Greek newspaper, reading every page until the sports section. He shared that joy with his grandchildren, encouraging them from a young age to read the Greek newspaper alongside him. He believed it was the best education, a way to learn the language, stay curious, and feel connected to their Greek roots.

A man like so many in his generation, Dimitrios exemplified the American Dream and what could be achieved with sacrifice, dedication, and hard work. Above all, Dimitrios had the deepest love for his family and would, as he did, travel to the ends of the world for those he loved. He was always fond of telling his grandchildren, “Be bold and courageous in life.” That enduring message and his legacy will remain with them forever.

Dimitrios is survived by his loving daughters, Panagiota Hatzikyriakou and her husband Stavros Hatzikyriakou; Martha Avgouladakis and her husband Antonis Avgouladakis; and Stavroula Tsarpalas. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Marios Hatzikyriakou and his wife Stephania Hatzikyriakou; Adam Hatzikyriakou and his wife Rena Hatzikyriakou; Nikolaos Avgouladakis; and Dimitra George and her husband Constantine George. And he also leaves behind his beloved great-grandchildren, Stella Panagiota Hatzikyriakou and Panagiotis Michael George, who brought him immense joy.

May his memory be eternal and may he rest in a place of light, in a place of green pasture, in a place of refreshment where there is no pain or suffering, but life everlasting.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dimitrios’ memory to the Ascension Greek Orthodox Church in Fairview, New Jersey. Should you wish to send flowers, please send them directly to the Ascension Greek Orthodox Church in Fairview, New Jersey.

David A Pellegrino

David A. Pellegrino unexpectedly passed away at his home on November 22, 2025. A beloved colleague, friend, uncle, brother, father, and husband, this kind and generous soul touched the lives of hundreds of people. Born in 1964 in Cheektowaga, NY, David and his two sisters, Laurie and Leslie, were raised by their mother Mary-Margaret. David always enjoyed wonderful friendships with his sisters and their families.

David was a respected and adored partner in the litigation practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (and Freeborn & Peters, LLP, which combined with SGR in 2023). He was a dedicated counselor and unrelenting litigator who built a reputation as among the most trusted advocates in real estate litigation, representing lenders, borrowers, developers, property owners, and key stakeholders in complex disputes across state and federal courts. His expansive knowledge, calm command, and experience generated innumerable successful outcomes. David’s work not only supported the clients he served but shaped the lawyers he mentored and the legal landscape itself. Several of his cases resulted in landmark published opinions, including the leading New York Court of Appeals decision on the duration and priority of real estate judgment liens. His commitment to the field extended beyond litigation: he co-authored the “Commercial Real Estate Litigation” chapter in the renowned treatise Commercial Litigation in New York State Courts, frequently lectured on real estate issues, and was an active member of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York Bar Association, contributing to the committee on the Civil Practice Law and Rules. A graduate of SUNY Stony Brook and St. John’s University School of Law, David began his legal career at Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP and Phillips Nizer LLP. David was a lawyer’s lawyer, known for his legal acumen, intellectual rigor, and steadfast advocacy, and admired for his kindness and approach ability that were the fabric of his strong relationships with present and former clients, colleagues, and adversaries alike.

David met the love of his life, Pauline Duggan, and they married in 1995. They made a beautiful life together with their two daughters, Kate and Nina, in Leonia, NJ. Pauline, Kate, and Nina were the center of David’s universe, and he was very present in every aspect of their lives. The girls' friends laughingly referred to David as the perfect girl-dad. As soul mates, David and Pauline were in perfect sync and had recently been enjoying wonderful times together as empty nesters. David loved his home and welcomed one and all on every occasion. Their home always included their cherished dogs, whom David lovingly doted on. He was a loyal friend and had many meaningful relationships. David was adored and will be remembered for his kind, generous, funny, steadfast, and calm manner that brought joy to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of life and all that the world had to offer. From researching how to make the perfect cup of coffee to knowing where to find the finest craft brew, David’s passions were wide-ranging and infectious to all around him.

David is survived by his wife, Pauline Duggan Pellegrino, and children Kate and Nina Pellegrino, sister Laurie Crawford and Tom, sister Leslie Peck and John, his late brother-in-law Francis Duggan and Christine, sister-in-law Deirdre Duggan, nephews and nieces Stephen, Emma, Matthew, Douglas, Grace, Grant, Lily, Joseph, Olivia, Hyatt, and Fiona. David was predeceased by his mother, Mary-Margaret Schram. David will be greatly missed by his family and friends all over the US, Ireland, England, and Canada.

The family is having a private wake and funeral and will host a memorial after the new year. The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made in David’s honor to a charity of your choice.

Jeffrey D. Aldrich

Jeffrey Dennis Aldrich, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, lived a full and generous life as a son, father, brother, uncle, husband, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was all of these things, and so much more, to everyone who knew him. With a very big personality and spirit and energy, Jeff had a beautiful and simple outlook on life, family, work, and love. He believed deeply in being kind, being honest, and being generous, and he lived those values every day.

Jeff began working early in life, taking his first job at sixteen at his local gas station. He enjoyed working on cars and developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work and hands-on problem-solving. His Wisconsin years were full of excitement, friendships, and stories he would recount with humor and pride.

Jeff had the honor of serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He often spoke of these years with awe; his experiences in the Army shaped him for life. He said that if he hadn’t been wounded in action, he would have stayed in the Army forever.

After returning from Vietnam and recovering from his injuries, Jeff married his first wife, Barbara, and together they had two sons, Jason and Joshua. Jeff worked for Kinney Shoe and the Woolworth Company, steadily ascending through the ranks. He was promoted and transferred all around the United States and enjoyed this part of his working career. No matter where he lived, he remained loyal to Brewers baseball and Packers football, and he always retained his Wisconsin “accent.”

Later in life, Jeff changed professions and went to work for Baillet Jewels in New York City. This job allowed him to travel extensively throughout the world, broadening his experiences and friendships. In 1991, Jeff fulfilled a dream when he began teaching tennis. He was an excellent tennis player; energetic, patient, and deeply dedicated to the sport. Teaching tennis brought him great enjoyment.

Jeff met his third and last wife, Dana, at tennis, and they became great friends and formed a strong working relationship. They became a couple in 2005 and were married in 2023. Their relationship was their priority. A deep love, understanding, and connection between them was so very obvious to anyone who knew them as a couple.

Jeff is survived by his cherished family, who will remain forever grateful for the love, wisdom, and guidance he gave them. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dana Aldrich; his sons Jason Aldrich and Joshua Aldrich; Jason's wife Jamie Aldrich; his granddaughter Jordan Ziemann and her husband Chandler; his grandson Alex Aldrich and his wife Taylor Nelson; and his great-granddaughter Zoey Ziemann.

Jeff was also a proud stepfather to:

Dylan Kelly and Dylan’s girlfriend Dominique Parkes,Ryan Kelly and Ryan’s wife Emily Yelverton. He embraced them as family and supported them with the same devotion he gave to everyone he loved.

Jeff is survived by his siblings:

Brother Tony Aldrich, and Tony’s children Eric and Dustin, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and niece LaurenSister Alice Sarlitto, her husband Glenn, and their son IanSister Kim Rourke, her husband Les, and their daughters Erin, Kelly, Katie, and MullaneyBrother Scott Aldrich and his wife Mary PuchekThose who knew Jeff remember him as wise, sensitive, and strong and one of the kindest and most understanding people in their lives. He loved quickly and fully. He supported, guided, and encouraged others, always offering his wholehearted honesty. It was said that he could have given a great lecture on being happy in life.

His values remain as a legacy to those he leaves behind: Be kind. Be honest. Be generous. Walk hand-in-hand with pride. Live life in the moment. Love deeply with your whole heart.

Jeff will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
