John DeSimone

John DeSimone, a cherished pillar of Leonia, New Jersey, whose life was a testament to quiet dedication, unwavering community spirit, and an infectious joie de vivre, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Englewood Hospital. Born on November 26, 1947, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey, John carried with him a legacy of family devotion, civic engagement, and heartfelt kindness that touched all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A graduate of Bergen Catholic High School in Paramus, NJ, John furthered his education at St. John’s University in New York, laying a foundation that would support both his business acumen and his thoughtful leadership. The DeSimone family’s connection to Moore’s Hardware in Leonia, a cherished community landmark, began in 1952 with John’s father, Ferruccio “Fred” DeSimone, and uncle Bruno at the helm. In 1986, John assumed sole ownership and stewardship of the store, carrying forward a tradition steeped in service and neighborhood camaraderie. The store was more than a place of commerce; it was a gathering spot where John became a de facto mayor, offering a listening ear, sage advice, and steady support to his neighbors.

John’s commitment to Leonia extended beyond the counter. Emboldened by his desire to help in tangible ways, he served on the town council from 2010 to 2012. Recognized for his resolve and ability to connect with the community, John won the mayoral election and served as Leonia’s Mayor from 2012 until 2016. In this role, he embodied the essence of humble service — never seeking fanfare, but always acting with purpose to uplift his fellow citizens.

Those who knew John remember a man whose heart was as expansive as his smile was bright. His personality was described as bubbly, warm, and full of good humor. It was impossible not to be drawn into his joy, where laughter was frequent and every day held the promise of a merry conversation. He delighted in the simple pleasures: old black and white movies, the timeless melodies of Frank Sinatra—recalling with reverence the day he witnessed Sinatra perform live on Long Island, amidst a sea of swooning fans. These memories breathed life into his stories, told with the heartfelt ease of a man who found joy in every chapter of his journey.

As a boy, John delivered newspapers across Fort Lee, a daily ritual that included faithfully bringing the morning paper to Frank Sinatra’s father. His sharp aim and punctuality earned him a generous Christmas gift—an early testament to the discipline and care that would define his life. His love for baseball was passionate and encyclopedic; stats flowed readily from his lips with as much enthusiasm as his fondness for the legendary Yogi Berra, whose aphorisms like “If you see a fork in the road, take it” echoed John’s own embrace of life’s unpredictable beauty.

John’s devotion extended deeply into his family. He was a supportive and encouraging presence, often seen coaching his children at their school sports events, sharing in their triumphs and guiding their dreams. Vacations to Walt Disney World were treasured times of bonding and joy, emblematic of his commitment to creating lasting memories for those he loved.

John’s immediate family who survive him include his beloved son John W. DeSimone (known affectionately as Duke), daughters Jennifer DeSimone and Jaime Ellison, and his son-in-law, Marc Ellison. The warmth of his legacy shines brightly in his six grandchildren—Emma, Mia, Mason, Jake, Kate, and Jack—who carry forward his spirit and laughter. His sister, Margaret (Peggy) Andrews, and beloved nieces and nephews also grieve alongside them. His longstanding partner and best friend, Rebecca Root, and her two children, Brady and Lindsay, were cherished companions who shared with John a true and lasting bond with smiles and laughter along the way.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ferruccio “Fred” DeSimone; his mother, Michalina (Margaret) DeSimone (née Fondi); and his brother, Robert “Bobby” DeSimone. Their memories live on in the fabric of the family and the community John so loved.

John DeSimone’s journey was defined by a steadfast dedication to family, an unshakeable commitment to community, and a heart filled with generosity expressed through quiet deeds rather than grandeur. His life invites reflection on the power of simple acts—delivering a newspaper on time, running a family-owned hardware store, serving as mayor—not for recognition, but because they simply needed to be done.

He leaves behind a Leonia forever touched by his kindness, a family rich with love, and memories that will continue to inspire smiles. To be in John’s presence was to be reminded that true happiness resides in humble service, warm laughter, and the gentle touch of a life well-loved.

In Loving Memory of Nicolaos Constantinides

1940-2026

Nicolaos Constantinides, known as Nico to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026. He is survived by his wife Kyriaki, his children: Michael and daughter-in-law Maria, Polymnia and son-in-law Greg, John and partner Brian, his grandchildren: Nicholas, Anthony, Loukia, and Jonathan, his siblings and their spouses, and his many nieces and nephews.

Born in Cyprus on December 24, 1940, Nico was a Christmas blessing to his parents, Mihalis and Christalla Constantinides. They instilled the value of hard work and family to him and his three siblings, Androulla, Erini, and Andonaki.

As an immigrant, Nico worked many jobs to provide for his family. His dream was to be an entrepreneur. While his hard work paid off when he created K&K Produce, he was most proud at helping to establish Pan Hellenic Foods of New York– a wholesale produce company created and run by Greeks. He taught his children that anything can be achieved with hard work.

Even though produce was his career, he was a master gardener in his heart. Nico tirelessly toiled to create a spectacular landscape in his backyard. He could be seen cutting off leaves from the grape vine brought from Cyprus, dragging around one of his large lemon trees, or endlessly constructing traps to protect his garden from the squirrels and racoons who wanted a taste. In the end, he made a space where his grandchildren loved to run around and play.

Nico and Kyriaki enjoyed spending time together. Whether they were cooking, shopping, or just drinking coffee in the backyard, they were never far apart. Their love for one another was obvious by the way they took care of each other. In fact, Kyriaki tended to him night and day during the last years of his life. This is a testament of true love.

The family will receive their friends on Monday 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM at The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John The Theologian 353 E Clinton Ave. Tenafly, NJ 07670. There will be a religious service at 11:30 AM. The interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Harold Najarian

Harold was born on June 23, 1927, the first of three children born to Charles and Vergine Najarian in Weehawken, NJ. For the first 5 years of his life, he grew up in a home with his parents, grandparents, 2 great grandmothers and several aunts.

His youth was spent surrounded by a tight knit Armenian family, with many of his cousins becoming his playmates.

While attending Union Hill High School in Union City, NJ, he was drafted by Uncle Sam just shy of graduation towards the end of WWII. While his family was not happy about this, he was extremely proud of his service to our country. After serving honorably in the Army, he returned home and completed his high school education.

He worked for his father in the family grocery store business finishing his career at Kings Super Market.

Through his outgoing and friendly personality, Harold maintained friendships that lasted for a life time with his cousins, school buddies, and neighbors. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 142 of Maywood and the Ridgefield Senior Citizens.

Harold enjoyed spending time at the beach: swimming, fishing, and tanning in the sun. He also enjoyed traveling, the NY Yankees, and NY Giants. Perhaps his most favorite thing was playing poker. Whether it was with family or friends, he was always ready to join a game.

He will be missed by so many especially his nieces and nephews.

Chun-Hung Tzeng

Chun-Hung Tzeng, age 82, known to his friends and family as Henry, was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan passed away in his home on March 1, 2026. Growing up as one of nine children in the rural farming community of Yangmei, he witnessed firsthand the hardships of an era marked by intense industrial pressure and scarcity. Although his parents had not graduated from high school, they instilled a deep academic drive in him that led him to graduate at the top of his high school class and attend National Taiwan University. In 1979, he moved to Indiana with his wife and two sons, ages 8 and 3 to Indiana to pursue the American dream. He would spend the next 45 years working steadily to build a foundation so that his children and grandchildren could find their own paths and opportunities in America.

In his academic life, Henry remained a lifelong student who sought to bridge different cultures and disciplines. He was a humble scholar who earned three different degrees in three different languages. After college in Taiwan, his research path began at Göttingen University in Germany, where he earned a PhD in mathematics under the mentorship of Wilhelm Maak, a renowned mathematician, and attained an Erdős number of 5. Later, he quietly continued his studies to earn a second PhD in computer science from Indiana University, blending his mathematical roots with new technology. His books, publications and research focused on the mathematical foundations of game-tree search and artificial intelligence, specifically exploring probabilistic reasoning and alternatives to the minimax algorithm. His work contributed to a deeper understanding of how computers handle uncertain information and heuristic search, bridging the gap between theoretical mathematics and practical computer science.

Henry found his true calling as a professor at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Returning to his childhood roots in the Midwest, he felt right at home and became a true embodiment of "Hoosier Hospitality" to everyone he knew. Over a career spanning nearly thirty years, he taught his sons to cherish life’s simple pleasures—from quiet family dinners in front of the TV to peaceful weekends fishing at Prairie Creek Reservoir.

After he retired in 2012, Henry moved to Englewood, New Jersey to be near his two grandsons, who were the center of his world. For thirteen years, he was there by their side every single day; his grandsons couldn't have asked for more than to grow up seeing their grandfather daily, sharing all the little moments that ended up becoming the most important ones. Whether he was patiently unveiling the wonders of math and science or teaching them to knead dough for homemade mantous—a craft passed down from a dear friend—he poured a lifetime of wisdom and unconditional love into every hour they spent together. He was many things to many people, but to his family, he was simply a husband, father, and grandfather who is missed more than words can say.

Henry is survived by his wife, Wen, his children Dale (Meg) and Ken; and grandchildren Owen and Graham.

Filomena DiMeglio

Filomena DiMeglio, who lived nearly 103 years filled with love, hard work, and resilience went to the Lord on March 6, 2026.

Filomena was born in Pennsylvania, but almost immediately moved to the island of Ischia in Italy where she spent her childhood years. Those early experiences shaped her strength, values, and deep understanding of sacrifice. At 12, she moved back to the United States with her family and grew up in New York City. This is where she would go on to build her life and raise her family before moving to New Jersey.

Filomena was the definition of beauty and brains. Gifted with a sharp mind, especially mathematics. Filomena possessed an intelligence that was matched only by her work ethic- never forgetting the hardships of her early years. She loved gardening, cooking, doing income tax returns, knitting, listening to Italian music, long car rides, traveling, but above all, she loved spending time with family.

Filomena was a true warrior — resilient, steady, and dignified through every season of life. In outliving so many she loved, she carried both the weight of loss and the grace of endurance. Today, we take comfort in imagining her reunited with those who went before her.

In the later years of her life, she was deeply appreciative of the friends and family who surrounded her with care and affection. Especially during this past difficult year, she felt the love of those who would call or visit.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the future

Vincent Ardizzone

Vincent Ardizzone, a steadfast beacon of resilience and dedication, passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of seventy-nine. Born on February 14, 1947, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Vincent’s life was characterized by an unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and a professional career rife with remarkable achievements.

Having embarked on his academic journey at Stevens Institute of Technology, Vincent later secured an appointment at the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971. His academic pursuits did not cease there; later in his career, he attained a Master of Technology from Polytechnic University in 1994, followed by a Master of Business Administration from New York University in 2011. This relentless quest for knowledge reflected his belief that education should be cherished and pursued throughout one's life.

Vincent’s exemplary service in the United States Navy for nine years saw him rise to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving notably during the Vietnam War and undertaking assignments throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East. His experiences during this tumultuous period were harrowing yet pivotal, as he took part in significant military operations that shaped the course of history. Among these was the renowned "Easter Offensive," an involution of intense combat necessitating adept decision-making under pressure, resulting in a major turning point in the Vietnam War.

Professionally, Vincent left an indelible mark on numerous critical projects during his time with esteemed companies such as Worthington Pumps, Dresser Industries, Warren Pumps and Filtration Solutions. His contributions included pivotal roles in developing the Marine Corps M-1 Main Battle Tank, designing noise-quiet components for naval submarines, and the construction of flood control stations with the Army Corps of Engineers. Notably, he also engaged with the U.S. Marshals Service to combat contractor fraud, displaying the same diligence and integrity in his professional duties that characterized his military service.

After the September 11th terror attacks, Vincent was asked to participate in a series of forums at the Naval War College to draft a new strategic doctrine for the Navy, considering terrorism as a prime Naval threat.

Later in life, Vincent was proud to serve the United States Naval Academy once again as a Blue and Gold Officer, mentoring, guiding and interviewing applicants for appointments.

Beyond his official capacities, Vincent was a loyal American and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He held dear the moments spent with his family, particularly finding pride and joy in mentoring his grandchildren, sharing with them his love of history, reading, Navy football and Duke basketball. A lifelong lover of all types of literature, he was known as a prolific reader and a great conversationalist, his warmth and humor leaving an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to share in his company. Together with his beloved wife, Barbara, Vincent reveled in their travel adventures, to destinations such as Hawaii, Italy and Ireland.

Vincent’s legacy extends through his cherished family: his devoted wife, Barbara Ardizzone; his two daughters, Karen and Stephanie; his son-in-law, Patrick Chevalier; and his three grandchildren, Dylan, Derrick, and Avery. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Affuso; brother-in-law, George Affuso; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Vagge; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

His life, marked by the rallying cry of the Navy, “Don't Give Up the Ship,” encapsulated Vincent's unwavering resolve and profound commitment. As we reflect on the life of this extraordinary man, we can be certain that his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him and honor the values he stood for.
