It’s World Autism Awareness Day! ⭐
April 2nd is a time to highlight the importance of ensuring autistic individuals have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive—while also embracing and celebrating their unique contributions and perspectives.
While we’ve made great strides as a society, there is still much more to do! In our practice, we see firsthand the limited therapy resources, long waitlists, insurance challenges, and other barriers that make it difficult for autistic individuals to access the support they need every day. This is an issue we have worked on alongside our colleagues, and we’re proud to share one big win—we successfully partnered with the South Carolina state health insurance plan to secure reimbursement for autism assessments for state employees' children and expand their network of qualified evaluators to help reduce wait times for services! One small step at a time!
On a personal note, our business was founded on the idea of "reimagining abilities," with autistic individuals at the forefront of our minds. It can be easy to overlook and misunderstand the full experiences of autistic individuals—their challenges as well as their incredible strengths. But every day, I am amazed by what my kiddos accomplish socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically.
Let today be a reminder to keep advocating, keep learning, and keep pushing for change—because every autistic individual deserves access to the resources, support, and respect they need to thrive. ⭐
