PSA: If your reports have a few typos or end with recommendations like “unlimited playtime advised,” please reach out to Violet.

She’s our newest office assistant who types exclusively with her toes, and does not answer phone calls.

Reading? Overrated.

Rules? Hard pass.

We’ve had sweet Miss Violet with us for a couple of months now, and despite her unorthodox methods (and snack breaks every 5 minutes), we’re thrilled to have her as part of the Abilities Reimagined crew 🐾💙

Teachers are busy- especially at the beginning of the year- but that doesn’t mean your child’s needs should get lost in the shuffle.

✨ The first 30 days are a valuable window to build trust, share helpful insights, and set the stage for strong communication all year long.

Use these tips to advocate clearly, respectfully, and effectively for your child’s success. 💬💛

👩‍🏫 Teachers—what have parents shared early on that really helped you support their child? What advice would you give parents for approaching teachers in those first few weeks? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

"Should we keep going with therapy or tutoring this summer?"
This is one of the most common questions we hear from parents- especially after a busy school year when everyone’s craving a little fun and rest. ☀️😅

You're not alone in wondering what’s best! The answer depends on how your child is doing, how much progress they’ve made, and what your family’s summer rhythm looks like. 🧠💬

Use these 3 guiding questions to help you make a decision that supports both your child’s growth and your family’s well-being. 💛✨

🌟 What Can You Do NOW to Help Make Next School Year Better? 🌟

We get it- if this school year has been tough, it’s tempting to think, “Let’s just get through this year, and we’ll pick things back up in the fall to address these challenges.” But the truth is, taking small steps NOW can make a world of difference for next year.

Here are some ideas to help you get a head start:

1️⃣ Reflect on this year with your child- What went well? What were the biggest challenges? 📚✏️ Taking time to look back with your child can give you insights into areas to work on.

2️⃣ Reach out to teachers- Teachers have valuable feedback about your child’s growth and challenges. Ask for recommendations on programs, tools, or strategies you can use over the summer to help your child get ready for next year. 💬🍎

3️⃣ Create a gentle summer plan- This doesn’t mean rigid schedules! Focus on low-pressure activities that build on skills, like a reading routine or fun executive functioning games. The summer is the perfect time to give your child a little extra support without overwhelming them. 🌞📖

4️⃣ Consider evaluations and therapy- If there were consistent struggles throughout the year, summer is the perfect time to explore these services. Waiting until the school year starts can lead to long waitlists and delays. ⏳

✨ By taking small actions now, you’re setting up your child for success next year. Don’t wait until the fall- start planning today!

Spent a beautiful (and slightly chilly ❄️) morning this week observing at the Anne Springs Close nature-based preschool program. It was such a treat to see the nature-based methodology in action—little ones arriving in their hiking boots and outdoor gear, ready to explore and learn 🍃 Grateful for opportunities to collaborate with local schools to better support the children and families we serve!

It’s World Autism Awareness Day! ⭐

April 2nd is a time to highlight the importance of ensuring autistic individuals have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive—while also embracing and celebrating their unique contributions and perspectives.

While we’ve made great strides as a society, there is still much more to do! In our practice, we see firsthand the limited therapy resources, long waitlists, insurance challenges, and other barriers that make it difficult for autistic individuals to access the support they need every day. This is an issue we have worked on alongside our colleagues, and we’re proud to share one big win—we successfully partnered with the South Carolina state health insurance plan to secure reimbursement for autism assessments for state employees' children and expand their network of qualified evaluators to help reduce wait times for services! One small step at a time!

On a personal note, our business was founded on the idea of "reimagining abilities," with autistic individuals at the forefront of our minds. It can be easy to overlook and misunderstand the full experiences of autistic individuals—their challenges as well as their incredible strengths. But every day, I am amazed by what my kiddos accomplish socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically.

Let today be a reminder to keep advocating, keep learning, and keep pushing for change—because every autistic individual deserves access to the resources, support, and respect they need to thrive. ⭐

Exciting news… our family is getting a new standard poodle puppy next month! 🐶💛 We’ve narrowed her name down to two choices, and the kiddos (plus their parents & siblings! 😊) have had a blast casting their votes over the past couple of weeks.

Stay tuned for the big reveal! ✨🐾
