🎨🥦 Feeding therapy isn’t always about bites—it’s about building comfort, confidence, and curiosity around food!

One of our favorite ways to reduce anxiety with non-preferred foods is through food play. By taking the pressure off eating and focusing on exploration, kids can gradually become more comfortable touching, smelling, and being around new foods.

✨ Today’s activity: dipping food into paint!
Kids used carrots, celery, and even crackers as paintbrushes—exploring colors, textures, and smells without any pressure to eat.
✅ Lower stress and anxiety around unfamiliar foods
✅ Build positive associations through fun and creativity
✅ Encourage sensory exploration without the pressure to taste

Food play is a stepping stone—over time, curiosity often leads to trying! 💡

Our team is growing!! We are so excited to welcome Amelia to our Carolina Speech & Myo team!

Amelia graduated from the University of Kentucky in May of 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She then went on to earn her masters degree in speech-language pathology from the University of South Carolina. Through her clinical experiences she has developed a passion for all-things language, but particularly in the younger population. She is looking forward to growing her knowledge about Pediatric Feeding Disorders. Originally from Southern Maryland, Amelia is excited to explore her new home in Charlotte. Outside of work she enjoys riding horses, cooking, and running.
