Knee pain and stiffness during rainy season can be caused by a number of factors, including:
Barometric pressure
When it rains, barometric pressure decreases, which can cause muscles, tendons, and other tissues around joints to expand. This expansion can crowd the joints and put extra pressure on them, which can lead to pain. People with arthritis or chronic joint pain may be more sensitive to this type of discomfort.
Humidity
High humidity levels can cause joints to swell and become more sensitive. For people with existing knee conditions like arthritis, the humidity can make the pain worse.
Temperature changes
Sudden temperature changes, which are common during rainy season, can affect joint lubrication. Cold, damp conditions can also tighten the muscles around joints, which can cause more pain.
Synovial fluid
When it’s cold and rainy, the fluid in the knee, called synovial fluid, can thicken, which can cause more friction and stiffness.
