Our staff of pediatric orthopedic experts are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of infants, children, adolescents and young adults with orthopedic conditions. The physicians and staff of Pediatric Orthopedics of Southwest Florida, or Peds Ortho, offer the most advanced treatment and the most experienced orthopedic care specific to children in the region. The personalized care given to children sets a standard of excellence that is sure to give parents peace of mind. Peds Ortho emphasizes family-centered care and knows the importance of quickly returning children to their normal lives. It’s something we’re emphatic about; children are not small adults, especially when it comes to bones and joints. Treatment of a broken bone, sprain, or injuries is very different in children because their bones are still growing.

Myth Busted! 💥 Does a heavy backpack cause scoliosis?
The short answer: No. 🙅‍♀️

Scoliosis is primarily a genetic condition, and research shows that activities like carrying heavy bags, playing sports, or having "bad posture" don't cause or worsen the curve.

Keep those kiddos active and don't sweat the heavy textbooks (though their shoulders might appreciate a lighter load)! 📚💪

January is National Birth Defects Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and support families affected by congenital conditions. Clubfoot is one of the most common birth defects, affecting the structure and positioning of a baby’s foot. In babies with clubfoot, the foot may point downward and inward, and the calf muscles on the affected leg may be smaller. Early evaluation and treatment, often with gentle stretching, casting or bracing, can help children achieve a normal-looking foot and walk, run and play comfortably.
