What You Need to Know After a Car Accident in Florida:

🚘💥You’ve Been in an Accident — Now What?
In Florida, you have limited time to take action if you want your medical care covered under your auto insurance.

🗓️ The 14-Day Rule
Under Florida’s Personal Injury Protection (PIP) law:
🔹You must seek medical treatment within 14 days of your accident
🔹This is required to activate your PIP insurance benefits
🔹Even if you feel fine, hidden injuries (like whiplash or soft tissue damage) can appear later

👨🏼‍⚕️Who Can You See for Treatment?
You must see a qualified medical provider. Acceptable providers include:
Medical Doctor (MD)
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Hospital or Emergency Room
Chiropractor (DC)
Dentist
Licensed Emergency Medical Personnel (EMTs)
(Massage therapists and acupuncturists do NOT count as initial treatment under the law)

💵 What Does PIP Cover?
Up to $10,000 in medical benefits
Coverage for 80% of medical bills and 60% of lost wages
If your injuries are NOT classified as an Emergency Medical Condition, you may only receive $2,500

⚠️ What Happens If You Wait Too Long?
If you don’t get treatment within 14 days, your insurance:
Will not cover your medical expenses
May deny your PIP claim entirely
This means you may have to pay out of pocket or pursue a legal claim against the at-fault driver.
