Please share - we are on the look out for 3 things: 1) WWII veterans, 2) Korean veterans, and 3) Underwrite a veteran for $50. All the information is shown below. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks so much Kim

For the first time, the Saluting Our Heroes celebration will include veterans of the Korean War, alongside the esteemed “Greatest Generation” heroes of World War II. With the number of World War II Veterans steadily declining, organizers have decided to honor Veterans of the Korean War, often re...

Edison and Ford Winter Estates to Remain Open During McGregor Boulevard Construction

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 5, 2024) -- A portion of McGregor Boulevard including the section at Edison and Ford Winter Estates will be closed due to construction starting July 8. The Estates will remain open during the roadwork. Detour directions for visitors are on the attached map. Traffic from US-41 will not be impacted. The roadwork is a City of Fort Myers project and is not part of the Estates' master plan.

Estates' visitors should enter through the back entrance from Monte Vista Street; the main entrance on McGregor Boulevard will be closed. Visitors traveling on McGregor southbound should turn left on Virginia Avenue, right on Euclid Avenue, then after passing Larchmont Avenue, take a slight right onto Marlyn Road, then turn right onto Monte Vista, which leads into the Estates' parking lots.

Visitors traveling northbound should turn right on Linhart Ave., left on Cortez Boulevard, then left onto Monte Vista Street, which leads into the back of the Estates.

Travelers from US 41/Cleveland Avenue (from the north) should turn right (slight right, not hard right) onto Cortez Boulevard. If coming from the south, turn left onto Cortez Boulevard. Next, turn right onto Monte Vista Street, and follow into the Estates' parking lots.

The Spirit of '45 Committee of Lee County has changed the format to Saluting Our Heroes '45 and '53 and have added the Korean Veterans to this wonderful event. If you should know a WWII or Korean Vet, please share this flyer with them and have them contact me. The dinners for the WWII and Korean veterans and their spouses are free but I need to know they are coming and if they need transportation. Thanks so much for sharing!

Edison and Ford Winter Estates
7h ·
Marti Campbell loved volunteering. In 2011, she became a volunteer at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates – even though she was already involved with other organizations. She quickly became loved by staff and was a very valued volunteer. Marti was dependable, passionate, and friendly to all those she met.
In 2015, in addition to her volunteering, Marti became a part-time staff member at Edison Ford. She was so reliable, organized, and caring that the retail manager offered her a paid position. Marti shrink-wrapped the books for our gift shop and kept the shelves stocked. However, she did so much more than that: she engaged with visitors on a regular basis and helped find the right staff member to recommend books for each person that requested assistance.
Marti was always a joy to talk to and was quite entertaining. She knew about so many things and shared her knowledge with staff and visitors alike. She had a variety of interests, including jewelry, real estate, theatre, travel, and spending time with her friends. She also loved sharing stories about her cats.
Sadly, Hurricane Ian took her life. We are all mourning the tragic loss of Marti and her memory will remain in the hearts of staff and volunteers forever (she is pictured on the far left).
