Back in 1962, after JFK called for a youth health revitalisation, 4,000 schools across the country adopted a fitness program created by La Sierra High School.
A veteran of the Second World War came up with this system. His name was Stan LeProtti and his system was inspired by Greek philosophy of “whole man” fitness.
The La Sierra System was as tough a test as any. Those operating at the highest level of the system had to do 34 pull-ups, 52 bar-dips, 50 handstand push-ups, run a mile in 5:15, handstand for 45 seconds, swim two miles, and more. By today’s standards of fitness, this seems impossible to most people…
Now we’re living in a time where being overweight and chronically ill is seemingly the norm. On top of that, we have all the information and knowledge necessary to stay healthy. Yet, we can’t seem to do it on a large scale. Whether it’s our food or sedentary lifestyle, staying healthy has become too difficult and some people have just given up.
