🚨 We are desperately in need of crates and pet carriers!
These are vital tools we use every single week — for transporting animals we rescue from other agencies, and for safely sending our shelter pets off to loving foster homes.

Eric’s Journey 🐾

Eric came to Gulf Coast Humane Society on October 29, 2024, transferred from Lee County Domestic Animal Services as part of the Chico's Promise.

For nearly 9 months, he waited with quiet patience — a sweet dog who was always ready for a walk or a little attention.

Thanks to Chico’s Promise, Eric’s adoption fee was fully sponsored — making it easier for him to find the home he’d been waiting for. And on July 20, 2025, Eric was finally adopted.

We’re so thankful to Chico’s Promise for supporting dogs like Eric and helping them get the second chance they deserve. And to Eric’s adopter — thank you for seeing the incredible dog he is and giving him the stable, loving home he’s been waiting for.

🌟 Sunday Senior Spotlight: Meet Starfire! 🌟

Starfire is a graceful 9-year-old domestic medium hair with a heart as soft as her beautiful grey and white coat. 🐱✨ She’s calm, quiet, and would love nothing more than to spend her golden years in a peaceful home filled with gentle pets and cozy naps.

She’s on a special diet and needs a home without other pets or young children—just a calm space where she can truly shine. 💖

Starfire is part of our Silver Paws VIP Program, which means if you're 65 or older, her adoption fee is waived and you'll receive free veterinary care through our wellness clinic. It's our way of supporting lifelong companionship.

💜 Meet Birdy — our Papa John’s July 2025 Pet of the Month, and a dog who’s been waiting far too long for someone to choose him.

Birdy has been at the shelter nearly a year, and in total, he’s been waiting over 18 months for a home to call his own. Just one application in all that time. One.

We don’t know why people walk past him. He’s goofy, loving, full of life, and just wants to be someone’s one and only. Birdy thrives best as the only pet — which just means he has even more love to give YOU.

At 5 years old and 40 lbs, Birdy still bounces with puppy energy but also knows how to melt into a cuddle. He’s been in foster and proved to be an absolute sweetheart. He’s working on his leash and house manners — all he needs is someone patient and kind to help him keep learning.

If you've ever considered adopting — please, come meet Birdy. He might not get a lot of visitors, but we promise, this boy is worth knowing.

This we wanted to highlight pur foster program and the way it can save lives.

When a mama dog or cat comes in with babies, the shelter can be overwhelming—and stressful for everyone. A foster home gives them a quiet space to bond, nurse, and grow strong together.

Fostering a mom and her litter is one of the most rewarding experiences—you're not just helping one shelter pet, you're helping an entire little family.

Don’t forget: We also need fosters for adult cats and dogs, which usually require much less time but make just as big an impact.

We’re feeling extra grateful this thanks to the amazing students, staff, and families of Harn's Elementary School! 🐾📦

They organized a thoughtful donation drive that brought in much-needed items for our shelter, and it means so much to see young leaders stepping up to help animals in need. The compassion and care this school community showed is truly inspiring, and our team (and our shelter pets!) are incredibly thankful. You’re helping us build a more humane future—one donation at a time!
