At Lee Health Foundation, our team is inspired every day by the moments that matter both in our work and in our lives. For Alex Rivero, associate director of development, one moment this year captured the heart of why he does what he does.

As Alex shared:
"For me, it was being able to do meaningful work while spending time with my family. I love this picture. I took my son out on visits, and I remember a man named Tom Brady (not THAT Tom Brady 🏈) asking if he could pick my son up for a photo. Before I could say anything, my son said "yes!". It was a fun day out and a reminder of how special this work can be."

Alex’s experience reflects the balance of purpose, community, and family that drives our mission forward.

We are grateful for the people who make Lee Health Foundation what it is and for the moments that shape our year.

From four rooms and ten beds to more than 1,800 — our story began in 1916 when community members came together with just $300 and a dream to bring healthcare to Fort Myers.

Today, Lee Health has more than 2 million patient contacts every year — caring for our neighbors, friends, and families across Southwest Florida.

Because from the very beginning, this has always been about you.

Every moment of care, comfort, and recovery is made possible through community support. Your gift ensures we can keep delivering lifesaving care close to home for generations to come.

One moment can change everything.
What will your moment be?

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last week’s Robotics Donor Insider event at HealthPark Medical Center!

Our community of supporters got an inside look at the future of innovative, patient-centered cardiac care at Lee Health Heart Institute, and the exciting progress ahead.

Guests heard directly from Dr. Daniel O’Hair about the expanding possibilities of robotic mitral valve surgery, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of our operating rooms with Dr. Juan Ibarra.

Donors even had the chance to test one of our DaVinci surgical robots, seeing firsthand how robotic technology is transforming precision, reducing recovery times, and improving outcomes for patients across Southwest Florida.

Thank you for believing in the future of advanced cardiac care at Lee Health!

Last Thursday, we came together to celebrate the generosity of our donors, partners, and champions of care at Evening of Appreciation. More than 400 supporters joined us to recognize the impact philanthropy has on healthcare in Southwest Florida!

During the event, we presented three humanitarian awards that recognize extraordinary leadership and dedication to our mission. Tom Golisano was honored with the Frank Haskell Humanitarian Award, Erica Dayton accepted the award on his behalf. Dr. Emad Salman, Chief Physician Executive and VP of Operations at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, received the inaugural Physician Champion of Philanthropy Award, and Reverend Denise Sawyer, System Director of Spiritual Services for Lee Health, received the inaugural Clinician Champion of Philanthropy Award.

It was a night to reflect on the generosity and commitment that make better healthcare possible for families across our community. Thank you to Flad Architects and Skanska for sponsoring this special evening and helping us celebrate the people who make our mission possible.

Anne Frazier, system director of development for Lee Health Foundation, is a cancer survivor.

Following a routine heart scan in March of this year, Anne’s care team uncovered a suspicious lung nodule. The diagnosis was surprising—lung cancer.

For Anne, who exercises daily and has never smoked, this discovery was a shock. There were no warning signs, but Anne's care team moved with speed and precision.

She met with Dr. Leandro Moraes, a board-certified oncologist at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic in Bonita Springs, where she learned that surgery alone might be enough to cure her.

On April 14, just weeks after learning she had cancer, Anne underwent a robotic lobectomy to remove the lower lobe of her right lung. The surgery successfully removed all the cancer, meaning she avoided radiation or chemotherapy treatments.

"I've always told donors how their gifts help others," she said. "And now I'm standing here as the beneficiary of such gifts.”

Among the gifts Anne received: services at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Cancer Clinic close to her home, and the ION bronchoscopy and robotic surgery—the very clinic, technologies and programs funded through Lee Health Foundation.

Anne is now cancer-free and back to her daily life—grateful and more connected than ever to the mission she's long served. Leave a 💙 to support people like Anne during National Lung Cancer Awareness Month!

Lee Health Cancer Institute celebrated a major milestone last night — becoming ASCO Certified!

This prestigious certification, awarded by the ASCO-COA Oncology Medical Home (OMH), recognizes Lee Health for its commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered cancer care. With only 17 ASCO-certified practices in the U.S. and 3 internationally, Lee Health stands proudly as one of just two certified institutions in Florida.

This accomplishment highlights our ongoing dedication to advancing cancer care and improving outcomes for our patients. A special thank you to our incredible cancer care team, whose expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment made this achievement possible.

Our team honors the life and legacy of Jim Sprankle — a gifted artist, philanthropist, and devoted supporter of our community whose passion for his craft left an indelible mark on Southwest Florida and beyond.

Jim’s extraordinary talent brought the Bald Eagle, our nation’s symbol of strength, courage, and freedom, to life through his sculptures. Among his most renowned works is Freedom Fighter, a piece born from the grief and unity that followed the events of September 11, 2001. Commissioned and funded by the citizens of Sanibel as a tribute to our country and those lost, Jim sculpted the Eagle as a soaring emblem of the American spirit. In 2004, he personally presented Freedom Fighter to President George W. Bush, where it found its home in the Oval Office — a powerful reminder of resilience and hope.

Jim’s generosity was as remarkable as his artistry. He donated a model of Freedom Fighter to SanCap Cares, benefiting Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The auctioned sculpture helped fund additional hospital beds and provided advanced incubators for the region’s only neonatal ICU. Over his lifetime, Jim’s in-kind donations to Lee Health were valued at more than $3 million.

Jim passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of artistry, generosity, and community spirit. His contributions continue to live on through the patients helped by his philanthropy and the countless lives touched by his work.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, and all who were inspired by his life. May his memory remind us of the enduring power of art, generosity, and love of community.
