📢 Bell to Bell, No Cell Act Signed Into Law – Policy Coming Soon
➡️ In February 2025, the Arkansas Legislature passed the Bell to Bell, No Cell Act (Act 122), which will go into effect for all public and charter schools starting with the 2025–2026 school year.
➡️ This new state law prohibits student use of personal electronic devices—such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and earbuds—from the start of the school day (the first bell) until the final bell. The goal of the legislation is to reduce distractions, support student mental health, and promote a stronger focus on learning in the classroom.
What This Means for Fort Smith Schools
➡️ We are currently developing a district-wide policy to comply with the new law. This policy will outline expectations, enforcement procedures, and exceptions for things like:
➡️ Health-related needs or documented disability plans (IEP or 504)
➡️ Emergencies
➡️ Instructionally approved classroom use
✔️ Once finalized, the policy will be shared publicly on our website, sent to families, and included in back-to-school materials.
