ACHE is proud to announce the first recipients of the new Adopt-A-Scholar Recruitment Scholarships at ARCOM. This program connects donors with medical students, providing both financial support and mentorship while investing in the future of healthcare for Arkansas and beyond.

The inaugural scholarships were awarded to two students in the ARCOM Class of 2029:
- The First National Bank of Fort Smith Adopt-A-Scholar Recruitment Scholarship has been awarded to Deborah Jandebeur.
- The Brenda and Anthony Altman Adopt-A-Scholar Recruitment Scholarship has been awarded to Mary “Adi” Young.

We’ve officially signed a linkage agreement connecting the ACHE Master of Science in Biomedicine (MSB) program with the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program at ARCOM. This pathway creates new opportunities for MSB students to pursue their dream of becoming doctors, with guaranteed interviews and guaranteed acceptance into ARCOM for those who meet academic milestones.

Have you ever wondered how to choose a sweet watermelon? Well, there’s an app for that ... and one of our students helped create it! 🍉

As part of her undergraduate research project at Ouachita Baptist University, Student Doctor Rachel (New) Scott (Class of 2029) helped create an app to determine the sweetness level of a watermelon by its size and the sound it makes when thumped. Rachel’s role was to collect new data for the launch of the iPhone app.

“The hands-on nature of the research surprised me. I spent many hours at the grocery store, the lab, and even roadside stands testing watermelons, refining techniques, and making sure our data was reliable. The work was messy and repetitive, but it was also really fun,” Rachel said.
