This morning, we were honored to attend the River Valley Nonprofits Holiday Social & Celebration of Philanthropy at the The Bakery District and UAFS Center for Economic Development— a meaningful gathering that celebrated the heart, impact, and future of nonprofit work in our region.
The theme, “Some people do,” was a powerful reminder that lasting change happens because individuals and organizations choose to act, give, and serve.
Blake Rickman, Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and Executive Director UAFS Foundation, announced a generous $200,000 commitment from First National Bank of Fort Smith in support of the new Center for Nonprofits. We were also deeply moved by Dr. Terisa Riley, Chancellor of University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, who shared a heartfelt message honoring the giving hearts of nonprofit professionals and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to sustainable, community-driven action.
The new UAFS Center for Nonprofits represents a transformational investment in our region — strengthening nonprofit organizations, educating students to lead and govern with purpose, and generating knowledge about what truly works in the nonprofit sector. With more than 1,200 registered nonprofits within a 50-mile radius of Fort Smith, this center will be a vital resource for years to come.
A special thank you to Tim Shields, previous Director of River Valley Nonprofits, and Blake Rickman for their vision, leadership, and dedication to making this dream a reality. As the baton was passed from Tim Shields to Emily Treadaway, the new Director of the Center for Nonprofits, we celebrated another milestone with the announcement of having received the $7.5 million endowment check that was pledged toward this incredible new center.
We are inspired by the collaboration, generosity, and shared belief that when people do, communities thrive.
