❤️ Long Term Care Administrators Week

The Call

Most people think being a long term care administrator is just a job.

It’s not.

It’s a way of life.

Because this work doesn’t stay inside the building when you leave.
It follows you home.

The phone rings at midnight.
And at 2 a.m.
And on holidays. Multiple times.

A fall.
A death.
An outbreak.
A fire alarm.
A flood.
A family in crisis.

And suddenly you remember what this role really is.

You are the captain of a ship carrying the most precious cargo there is —
people’s mothers and fathers…
the matriarchs and patriarchs of families who trust you with the ones they love most.

Some days are humbling.

A resident will look you in the eye and say,
“Your hair looks terrible today.” True story.

No filter. Just honesty.

Some days are maddening —
when regulations and paperwork struggle to capture the human moments we witness every day.

But most days…

Most days remind you why you said yes.

Because sometimes leadership doesn’t look like a meeting or a report.

Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly beside a resident,
holding their hand
as they take their final breath…

because no one else is there.

People often say we must be crazy to take on this responsibility.

Maybe we are.

But those of us who answer this call know something they don’t.

There is no greater privilege
than caring for the people who once cared for everyone else.

So to every long term care administrator answering late-night calls…
leading tired teams…
comforting grieving families…
and loving residents like they are your own—
