The story of the Mental Health Bell. βCast from the shackles that bound them, this bell shall ring out hope for mentally ill persons and victory over mental illness.
In 1953, the Mental Health Bell became the symbol of the National Mental Health Association and all Affiliates Chapters. The 800 lbs Bell is rung each year and was cast in the shape of the U.S. Liberty Bell as a symbol of freedom from the oppression of mental illness.
